launching a rocket
i dont know why but i can make a mega factory with 2 science packs of each type per second, have everything to feed my entire factory, but once i get to the last science pack, i am pretty much demotivated. i try halfing my factory, so i don't need to build as much and i get 1 science per second, which is better since i am always researching, instead of the labs waiting for me to create the factories, extentions to furnaces, conveyor belts, powerlines and such for the next pack. i do use blueprints when i can, but only when i have a complex subfactory, like green circuits or solar farm. sometimes even my refinery. but most of the time none of my factories are the same.

how do i get motivation to launch a space ship?

I THINK the main problem is i have pretty much made my factory extremely compact, there are almost no spaces to put conveyors anymore and supplying my rocket with just robots sounds like a horrible idea. I consider compact factories more efficient, since it uses less conveyors, plus if something gets in the way, you can just move the entire subfactory to place down another factory for red circuits or whatever, and also it just friggin looks cool ok??

it could also be the fact that i spent so much time building, at the early game it's boring, but when you get to the mid-game oh boy its fun and then you finally run out of things and you need to build a rocket, ♥♥♥♥ this game why am i playing it? I guess it just wakes me up from the trance I was in since building stuff is probably the only thing i have to distract myself from the unbearable loneliness when playing this game. i tried playing with a friend, even multiplayer but i can't trust anyone but myself to create my factory :D (or maybe i just haven't found anyone like me) even when I am playing against a newbie they will still beat me to rocket because i am trying to build infrastructure to feed my massive factory.

and i'm the same in that i like a nice looking factory, and i tend to arrange things neatly - and if i don't pick my spot right or leave enough space then i run out of room - as well as losing the motivation to go tap the last load of resources

i think it may also be because i have done it before, both back in the days before yellow and purple science, as well as recently - and so i've already had that buzz of the plan coming together and all six science packs flowing at 2 per second

and actually the last time i did it the buzz wore off quickly when i realized after getting all my science sorted that i had nowhere near enough throughput to build the rocket quickly - so that last bit was something of a grind

but my plan is to finish my current game - and get the last 2 achievements that i've been after since my last reset (i reset the achievements each time i move to a new major release) - and so once i get my no solar and no laser run done (both together) - then i'm starting on mods

i reckon Krastorio 2 and Space Exploration will make everything shiny and awesome again - lots of ridiculously complex supply chains to make the factory crazy (instead of the vanilla ones that you get used to after a while) - and then the new frontier of moving into space

very excited

and then i also plan to play around with the settings to get motivated for vanilla again - since i have been playing using all default for my current achievement runs

also planning to play around with modding the tech tree to make some different experiences

and finally i still haven't had a proper play around with the circuit network - so i am excited to give my factory a brain

so yes - i get how the end game can sometimes be problematic when it comes to keeping the motivation high - especially if the map, or the way the build went on the map doesn't quite work out in the best way

but i do also love a nice fresh new map :-)

(and since i play with one life i have seen plenty of those, what with not checking for trains or trying to clear a big nest on foot, or crashing into a rock while circling it - or just not paying attention to the worms and realizing that they melted me)

but Krastorio2 and Space Exploration are the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow for me after i launch this next rocket - gonna be awesome - just need to build big and get there :-)

Maybe for once try a different concept and see how it goes?

I don't just mean not a compact factory but something very different, like what we call "train bus".
It's basically many small factories that take the ingredients for a recipe as input and give the item as output, connected to each others with an extensive train network.

You can adapt how many steps each factory handles if you like but the basic principle is to really separate each segment of your production.

Since trains are able to transport a lot of items over medium and long distances quickly, you usually don't have throughput issues to worry about and if you want you can even fairly easily turn the whole thing into a train-based logistics network of sorts where the trains only deliver items when the stations ask for it (through some circuit network).

Maybe you just need a goal, some people like to go for a thousand of all sciences per minute for example, including space science and they are able to take advantage of the infinite technologies for that as well.

You could also try to go for mods, there are quite a few different ones that are good, no matter if what you want is post-rocket stuff, better enemies, more complex production chains or fun toys.

Set a goal or something, like 1k spm or like get to lvl20 or lasers or lvl50 mining productivity and you will have to build rockets etc to get there in a reasonable time.
Your factory only starts when you start launching rockets tbh as white sciences can be researched continuously and the base that gets you to lvl50 mining prod is very different to the base that got you to the rocket.

Why should I want to launch a rocket? I don't care either.

But...

The (modded) biters are knocking on my doors and I can't keep them out much longer. I need better technology. Yet, most of the cool (modded) technologies require large amounts of white science packets to research.

Well let's launch those rockets then...Only downside is they produce so much pollution :steamsad:

thank you for introducing me to krastorio, tried bob's once and it wasn't really for me. way too much brain hurty trying to figure out the ratio of materials i need to feed my factory

no worries - yeah i'm really looking forward to starting Krastorio myself - just one more rocket to launch lol :-)
I like bob/angel pack. But at times will hit brick walls.... need resources you need to unlock or build large factory for it. So its fun but at certain stages it gets daunting to have to "restart" a new factory. I tend hit first spot once i have the first 4-5 science packs automated. Then starting the brass and such takes pushing to get myself to start building them.

I admit at times for sub products from recipies I will feed them into void chests or pipes. Untill i unlock some thing that uses that product.
