Factorio: Time Consuming and Fun?

I know this game is huge time sink to get to end, but what are the elements that make it fun? I find building railroads sort of fun myself.

is it more fun with or without mods?

It varies from one player to the next.

For me it is devising, implementing and finally watching the big contraption that is a factory working flawlessly without a need for human intervention for a while.

Huge time sink - check nefrums 1 hour runs...

isn't that the guy playing on same map over and over for a better time? doesn't that get old doing stuff the same most the time? is this game really about effeciency of gameplay than fun?

im not knocking his game. but i guess it can b e fun for casual or hardcore gamers.

my slowest parts of game are probably why i don't play fast. I think too much maybe lol.

Did you like the game Mouse Trap when you were a kid? If you did, then you will like this game for all the same reasons.

its more of a personal preference. i play without mods. people play heavily modded. some play the vanilla with different settings and people who get bored playing vanilla install lots of mods as the mod support is huge. so yeah its more like what is fun for you and play that.

You can play however you wish - do a 1h speedrun, spend a dozen hours building the most efficient train intersections, or you can start a sandbox game and spend hundreds of hours making a raytracing engine.
