Can aliens swim?
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2252438678

If i pick this map, can the aliens expand into my island with those settings? It would save me alot of resources for ammo if they can't:D Then i can just tech straight to laser turrets and the likes.

That's part of the plan.

There's stone right next to the island: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2252449278

And i won't have to make as many walls as usual.

You should open the screenshot you want to show and find the "share" button, either under the image or in the cog wheel menu in the top right and paste that url instead of your profile's screenshots:

Many thanks!
Good luck trying to establish a beachead when you get over there, that is a lot of biters.

That seems fun. I guess you'll have enough stone on the island.
Maybe build the bridge as early as possible and let it unfinished by a tile or two just to make sure it will work before spending stone on other things.

It should be fun if i get artillery. I also need to make laser turrets and set up oil though.

I'm way ahead of you :D One of the first things i automated was landfill production. I also stockpiled 2k walls which should be enough for the landing.

Oh great! I wasn't sure that was stone on the small island too, you've got all you need.

Also: bear in mind that Spidertron can cross stretches of water roughly as wide as Spidertron itself. So you could keep that island isolated from the "mainland" indefinitely if you want an impenetrable citadel for your main base. The main downside is that you'd have to get a fair way through the research tree with only 4 oil wells.

I have 5 oil wells and it's a big problem. I'm desperately scouting all the islands hoping to find oil. No luck so far.

I can't think of a reason why starting an island map would be considered anything else than an extremely tedious challenge. You're making things difficult for yourself by limiting resources and space. Unless that is the intention, I'd recommend playing with settings that tone done the biters in different ways - increase starting area size, turn off / lower expansion, increase polution required per attack wave, etc. etc.

By the way, laser turrets are nice, but rushing them is not an alternative for flamethrower turrets and gun turrets. Their damage is not that great and they are quite expensive. Their main selling point is that they obviously don't need ammo, so they're great in use cases where the logistics options are limited.

Part roleplaying, part changing up the gameplay from what i usually do, and partly because i live in an island kingdom irl. If it wasn't for Jutland all of Denmark would be islands.

Gun turrets are a hassle imo. I have to make ammo and bring it to the turrets. I never used flame turrets since i just got used to gun turrets and laser turrets from before flame turrets were a thing.

Heh that's funny. I like gun turrets and flamethrowers, because they pose a logistic and production challenge. I also used to use laser turrets almost exclusively, but since I started playing every game with deathworld settings or worse, I learned to love gun turrets and flamethrowers. There's something wonderfully gruesome and pleasing about them :)
