I have been killed by a train passing by and there are dozens of video of people dying to trains.
My recommend? Learn to check the mini-map before passing over a train track.
Or at least design a safe train crossing that uses gates to block train when you are trying to cross over rail.
We are not Hancock.
A grade crossing for tracks is also a good idea but you are better off setting the gates up to stop you from crossing rather than trying to stop the train.

I just look at the minimap out of habbit before crossing tracks.
The only thing I place along my tracks are power poles, lights, and red/green circuit wires.
But I usually run tracks in areas I have captured and completely walled off.
