Cant connect.
2 Days ago me and my friend were grinding out Factorio, the next day, he couldnt connect, said he lost connection/was dropped from the game, does this when he tries to host for me as well, what do i do.

Am I understanding it correctly in that he also loses connection when he is the one hosting the game? This seems impossible to me personally.

Does the problem persist even if you try a new map?

When i host and he tries to connect he loses connection, he hosts and i connect i lose connection, we have tried on a dozen maps, many new maps, some old. Many different versions, reinstalling, verifying cache, everything.

So first off you want to make sure on which side the problem is. Try connecting to a public server and if that works for you - but not for him - then you know with 100% certainty it has something to do with his connection and not yours.

I would have to guess that the problem would be related to a firewall or perhaps the router (Latter less likely than the former). If you both can connect to a public server without a problem then it might be a different problem entirely...

There's a few more things you can do, such as telling us when exactly you get/he gets dropped:

1. Right away when trying to connect.
2. Downloads the map fine but drops right away after that.
3. Downloads the map fine and catches up fine but drops after that.
4. Something else?


Edit: Do you guys connect to eachother with a steam invite? That sometimes errors for me as well. List the game publicly (But put a password on it if you want it to be private) and connect through the list.

When he goes to join, it just sits on an empty download bar and then just drops him after about a minute. It wont let me join servers, nor him.

We join off of the "Join Game" option and by sending invites.

My bad, he can connect to servers with no problem

Okay, I'd like to suggest not doing that anymore and instead list the server publicly and putting a password on it. Then find him (or have him find you) in the server browser. Setting the browser to "Steam friends in game: Yes" may not always work either...

Mind if I try joining your game? Just put up a new map and a password like 1234 (And give me the name) and maybe I can help out.

Edit2: I see your game in the list already (So you're also running 0.16.25 atm) and I did receive a popup to enter a password. Did your friend also get a popup to enter password?
