Can we plant trees?
I would like to plant trees not only for cutting down wood i might want, but also to help fight pollution.
Is this possible?

Not unless you use a mod.

Not without mods, your only means to reduce pollution in vanilla are to switch to solar/nuclear
power and to use efficiency modules to reduce the consumption (and pollution) of your machines.

boo. do you know if the trees marked as dead count toward combating pollution?

for power, putting my boilers in the middle of a large tree groove is able to keep the pollution from spreading from that front.

Its my drillers and burners that seems to be the worst on me.

but they are in what looks like a desert it. so im not sure if that is a reason why its out of control. also killed the small nests around me so im not atttacked so much. but noticed they eat smoke.

this is my pollution after turning off most of my stuff letting game run over night, I only had red and green potions and radar going, so all the pollution was gone when i woke up.

So this pollution is just from playing for last 2 hours.

in the Ne is 2 boilers, and that wood keeps it under control.

its the rest killing me, i destroyed 4 small nests that were circling me, now my smog is reaching the next radius around me. and im still only working on green tech.

massive forests to the west, but also MASSIVE high level zergs.

Trees that are dead stumps still remove a little pollution. Trees that are now trunks and have lost all of their foliage because of pollution do nothing to reduce pollution.

I think you've got it backwards though? once you remove a tree and there's a stump, that stump doesn't remove anymore pollution. trees that start dead and trees with no foliage both remove pollution though?

I do think that the pollution and combat aspects should be expanded upon.
More enemy types, too.

The wiki clearly states that trees that have lost all their leaves absorb 0 pollution.

I feel like you are not talking about the same thing with the same words.
All of the "dead" and "dry" trees absorb a bit but they are not decayed trees from normal ones.

I think I see the confusion. there are trees that visually look dead, but have no leaves, when I cursor over them it says brown tree. but many other trees with no leaves say dead tree when you cursor over them.

it was those trees i was asking about,

I second this. I'm playing with Bio Industries[mods.factorio.com] now and it's a lot of fun automating planting trees and fighting pollution. The systems you build with this mod are even self sustaining, meaning you can feed the wood you produce back into the bio farms.

Here's an example of my current bio farms:

I use Noxy's Trees and let them grow back automatically. Just make sure you set it up right as it can lag the game on older/slower memory.
