While I have to root for Dwarf Fortress, it's lack of a UI is frustrating as all hell. Image packs help, but are either out of date or hard to configure.

Either way, I feel that that game is nothing at all like Factorio.

They are both loosely in the "base building" genre. But at pretty much opposite ends.

Never could do anything with Dwarf Fortress but Gnomoria was great.

Still not like Factorio.

Know what else is great, but nothing at all like Factorio? Terraria.

...

Oh, sorry, thought this was the direction the thread has now gone. :steamhappy:

There's not really anything like Factorio, but yea, OTTD is the closest thing and also F2P. Might be worth a shot and if not, well, play the demo version over and over again until you want Factorio so baldy, that you buy it regardless the situation ;)

Gnomoria IS good. It's like a stripped-down Dwarf Fortress with actual graphics and a usable interface. But the best -- the absolute best part of it -- is that when you tell your gnomes to craft something, they'll automatically queue up the jobs they need for every piece needed. If you tell them to build a table, they'll queue up the planks, the sticks, etc and then make the table. (in that sense, very loosely, you could say there's a level of "automation," but compared to factorio, not really.) In Dwarf Fortress, if the ingredients aren't avaialable, the build task simply doesn't get done. You have to manually tell your dwarves to build all the components you're going to need, and have them stockpiled and available, before telling them to build the final product.

I laughed so hard at this because that's pretty much exactly what I did. I hardly ever buy games because I personally feel that buying games is a waste of money.
Enter Factorio.
Played demo.
Searched for months for a similar game - even looking on mobile devices for something, anything that gave me the same satisfied feel as factorio.
Played a not so legal version of the game. (Yes I am sorry, I am that person:steamsad:)
But I got so addicted that I wanted all the new updates and didn't want the development to stop! I couldnt get the new updates because I didnt have the real deal. So then saved for a while and bought it.

Actually, checking my steam now I have been gifted a few games but I have only ever purchased one. :steamhappy: Well done factorio!

I honestly could not find any other game like Factorio FTP. And Boy, I looked. I hope you find one or better yet, join us.

I think one of the problems is that factorio is a pretty specific, narrow, niche game. It has:
1) a physical player in the world that you move around to explore, build, and fight things.
2) a tremendous possible level of automation and complexity, including conveyor belts, railroads, and automated robots, and the problem-solving "puzzle" of putting it all together.
3) RTS/tower defense elements

It is very difficult for a game to be similar to factorio without being a cheap knockoff of factorio, which is probably why nobody has bothered.

Fortresscraft Evolved actually has these elements, and manages to be a different enough game that it doesn't feel like a factorio clone -- more like Factorio and Minecraft had a baby. Which makes it different enough that it might not really satisfy the "games like factorio" itch.

I mean if you own minecraft you could instal FTB pack with gregtech (if you want more details can share)

It will be like factorio but on smaller scale , and stronger empasis on realistic production(it did teach me wierdly enough more about chemistry and then school)

As for free games , i dont think there is more , ether you manup and find money somehow(selling cards on steam is decent way to get money for game every now and then) or selling various things online on steam marker you wont need

I recently did buy DLC for sniper elite 4 by selling some crap i did not need

You can alweys ask it as birthsday gift or christmas gift

as for similar games , not this quality , ether gregtech in modpack or this game , i could not recomend any other game about industry then these

You can't afford food but you're looking to play computer games? And you can also view this page, meaning you have wifi access, so you're (most likely) bluffing.

No need to judge other people.

But it looks like there are no decent FTP options. You'll just have to wait until your situation improves so you can afford to spend $20.

If you already have Minecraft, you could try Tekkit classic/Technic (there's a modpack that shares the name of the luancher), crash landing (hard), or some of the more modern minecraft modpacks via Feed The Beast. I know I had a lot of fun automating opening and sorting scrap boxes. (I dunno if there's an equivalent even IN the more modern modpacks, aside from skyblocks/skyblock esque maps where seiving for random stuff is the heart of the game)

This is starting to feel like a kid trolling for a free copy.
