Tanks are completely garbage (shields > tank). It feels like there is nothing to really take care of biters endgame besides nukes/flamers. But both have such downsides... Is there no better option?
And maybe flametrower if you researched enough damage
Mmm uranium MG is indeed extremely cheap and you can upgrade it infinitely.
Also I read that the tank MG was upgraded as well by 100% more damage and also you can fire personal lasers from inside it while using repair bots on it.
So maybe tank MG + uranium. And nukes for large open areas without any trees.
If vanilla: try nukes or the tank [if you can drive it well], or a large pack of destroyer bots [100+].
Oh, no! The destroyers are awesome! They are insanely expensive though. Now that nukes are in the game, I don't even build destroyers anymore.
You can have 134 destroyers follow you. When I used them, I would carry 1000 or more (5000 individual drones) destroyer capsules with me and could clear for an hour straight before I needed to resupply.

I found a decent solution however. Shield spam + 3 exo skeletons + upgraded combat shotgun. Facetank alien lairs and when shield get's really low, just run for 5 seconds and go in again.
But I will try uranium rounds and nukes later. So far at least I cleared some space for the new main bus:
