Is Factorio going to be on sale next Steam sale?

No, we don't plan to participate in any sales any time soon.

Announcement of no-sale policy originally posted by kovarex in Factorio Friday Facts #140[www.factorio.com]
We state it on our steam page, but people are still asking about it so I want to state it officially. We don't plan any Factorio sale. I'm aware, that the sale can make a lot of money in a short period of time, but I believe that it is not worth it in the long run, and since we are not in financial pressure we can afford to think in the long run. We don't like sales for the same reason we don't like the 9.99 prices. We want to be honest with our customers. When it costs 20, we don't want to make it feel like 10 and something. The same is with the sale, as you are basically saying, that someone who doesn't want to waste his time by searching for sales or special offers has to pay more.

Purpose of this thread is for people who are interestend in the game but feel asking price is too high, to voice their interest and explain why they think the game is too expensive. This is not place to convince people to buy the game regardless of its price nor question whether opinions about the game being expensive are valid or not.

No."

It saddens me to see in so many game forums so many people who won't shell out full price even when they know it's worth it. Remember when all pc games were $60? Prices now are rock-bottom, even without sales. It's just sad to see this state of affairs growing among gamers.

You are looking at it from thw rong side imo - if someone asks - and you tell him there won't be any sale - it might encourages him/her to buy it right now :)

That is the idea the devs had. They don't go on sale so people don't have to wait for the next sale permanently.
Ok, thanks for your responses.

Unfortunately, people don't even look at pinned topics... as we see daily. (So many posts about "how do I delete mods?")

I'll pin it though.

They have to reward holding off, because they have no other choice, their stuff will stop selling at some point. If they are dumb enough, that will already happen before that game comes out of Early Access.
Indiepeople are cute, when they have no publisher who explains them, how the business works, and they make up their own fantasies how to earn money.
This a red flag, it's pretty likely, they will never successfully finish their game.

I don't get what you are saying.

Are you saying that if they dont participate in sales, their product will be unsuccesful?

A publisher often means "game rushed", pressure on Devs....

Factorio sold over 700000 copies without a publisher and without discounts.

Dozens of indie games with publisher and discounts sold less than 2000 copies and often were abandoned.

I suspect that the only problem is that YOU don't want to spend 20 euro for the game. Totally free to not buy it.

But please don't try to teach fake marketing lessons to a game with 700000 copies sold and which is in the 100 most played games on Steam and has 98% of positive review and one of the most amazing and not toxic at all Community.

You are free to voice your opinion, yet I would welcome it, if you could watch your tone.

So... if they made it a $25 game and put it on sale for $20 would that make it better? It seems like most of the people complaing that it won't go on sale aren't arguing that $20 is too much for this game, they just want to see 20% off next to it when they buy it.

I think it is more like they could do what so many others do. Call it a $29.99 game, mark it 20% off and sell it for $23.99. The problem is, many tests have shown that consumers will feel like they get a better deal this way.
The good news is, I think most of the people who will REALLY enjoy Factorio are the same kind who are more likely to see through this sort of marketing.

One of the reasons I bought this game was the 20,- pricemark. I hate bullsh!t marketing.

Edit: ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ has to be written as bullsh!t. That sucks too :)
