Driving the Car in a straight line?
Is there a trick to driving the car in a straight line?

Refraining from pressing side arrows/or A & D will get you going in a straight line.

If you are talking about moving in a cardinal direction, there a mod that lets you snap to 15' increments (IIRC... or maybe 12.5'?) There's another mod called Pavement Drive Assist that keeps your car on roads make of concrete/stone.

Right - once I go straight I don't hit those keys. It's getting straight that's the trick.

I haven't looked into mods yet. 1,600+ hours lol. That one sounds perfect though as yeah I like driving in a straight line when on concrete. Thanks.

I gave up on the car. Even after the mod, and even after building nice straight streets in my base, I kept hitting things and damaging it. And forget about trying to drive through the wilderness... a few trees or rocks and you blow up.

^^ I agree with Name Lips... I just use 5 exoskeletons to run fast. There are too many trees/logs around to drive in the wilderness, and the base doesn't need me creating repair orders! XD

Put it on rails and call it a train. :tl2engineer:

Sorry, couldn't resist, but knowing this problem since the first GTA or maybe even earlier with games like Micro Machines on Amiga 500, i have not even tried to 'master' car driving in Factorio.
Tank is fine and running with a full equipped armor is just to convenient.
And trains, ah, you don't need to remember where you parked - just add a new station and call it to you. :Khappy:

Doesn't work that well when there is stuff in the car's inventory, and carrying things is the only thing the car's really good for to begin with :/ Especially after exoskeletons!

I never really had much of an issue with the Car; except with Tree Heavy areas.

IMO, the "trick" is knowing when to slow down and when it's okay to go fast. As long as you make solid "roads" around your Factory you should be relatively fine. "Tapping" instead of "pressing" helps as well when orientating the Car.

Overall though I much prefer the Tank or just a Train. The Car is neat but pretty much after "Early Game" it just sucks for ... everything really lol.

easy solution: build a second car that you keep empty and use that as your 'straight driving car' assuming that you need the car to go straight to place very long belt/wall/track at faster speeds

also tanks are great for placing long rail track through large forest areas if you want to create 'hidden railways' in the trees

one good use for this is to funnel biters to walk along the lines so they get crushed!

There is also https://mods.factorio.com/mods/Zaflis/VehicleSnap ...if you want to drive straight even in the wilderness :)
I just use the shuttle train mod[mods.factorio.com].
Sure, it takes more effort to set up than just slapping a bunch of exos in a power suit, but it's a lot more fun (for me, anyway).

Tip, download this mod: https://mods.factorio.com/mod/cardinal
Cardinal, he asserts the direction of the vehicle. In case you think it's not good, go to settings -> mod settings, and chage the cardinal settings on your taste.

Build 7 lengh roads, Use the personal Robo port so, It will fix immediately the probable crashs, and always walk with power poles and repair kits to so the robots can repair the damages and change the poles in case you destroy them.
Be happy.
