if you watch the YouTube Tactorio AMASS series, Steejo made something like this.
Depending on what you actually want, I may be able to suggest a mod that will help (although I don't use any sorting mods as I haven't found a need...)
In fact, most of the time, your chests will hold one type of item only. For Storage logistics-capable chests, the robots control the inventory, so there is no need for sorting. (They do a rough sorting in any case).
I keep having deadlocks where the chest can't get the correct items because the rails, for example will be split into a stack of 90 and a stack of 10, rather than one of 100, which means there's no room for the new items. Even though when it is fully stocked, there should be 3 slots spare. I may end up having to use two chests, which means I'd need to add a bunch more combinators.
Check Options>Mods > Startup / Per Player to see what it can do and set everything as you want. To change anything in "Startup" you need to go into the options from the main menu, not from within a running game.
Are you sure that mod was updated for 0.15? This is an OLD thread... like, "me" old.

If you're not interested in all the other features it adds, even if some of them are pretty neat, there's also this one:
