No oil fields?
I just recently got the game and have researched everything that requires red and green science and now all i need is petroleum to start moving on but I cant find any oil. Ive driven all over the map and only have the normal ore deposits instead of any oil. Is there some alternate way to make oil or just any reason why I cant find any?

Share your map string and tell us if you're running 0.16 or 0.17.

Well you maybe missed violet dots on the map which represents oil. You can use your map string to generate preview of the map to see where the oil is. It shouldn't be so far away.

I drove around lots of the map and took down many of the biter fort things and saw absolutely 0 violet dots. I only got this game yesterday so don't know how to generate a preview and find oil also.

when you start a new game theres a preview button at the menu before hitting play. In a game dots can be seen on the map (m button).

You could try this...

Save the game. Then enter this console command:
/c game.player.character_running_speed_modifier = 20
You'll have to enter it twice because they want to ensure that you're aware of the consequences and that you're giving up achievements. Now you're running super fast. You can quickly run around and explore for oil. Once you DO find it, remember where it was. Exit the game and reload that save. Now just travel back up to where you saw the oil. You'll still get achievements now.

I was able to do the preview thing and figured out the only oil fields are very far next to very large biter forts and such. My only real option is to widdle them down slowly but at least i know where some are now. Thanks a bunch for helping me out with that!

I think problem is that oil is kind of hard to see especially if it's middle of forest. Hitting M is easiest way to find it (from the map).

No problem. Good that you found it. Maybe you can go around biters? Or restarting with better map. Good luck xD

Assuming you're playing vanilla -
According to the map preview there's a good size oil patch due west of your starting position just above a fairly good sized biter base.

There's a couple of tiny ones due south of your starting position. One by a pond and one on some cliffs.

There's a small oil patch due south east of your starting position by a pond.

There's another tiny oil patch north north west of your starting position, just to the north of a big iron patch.

There may well be more that I didn't spot!

Not really.

Option A - Get yourself a car, put ammo in the turret and circle strafe the base. Just keep moving and you're pretty safe. At least until there's a lot of biters and worms around. Then you need a tank, but that's past oil.

Option B - Turret Creep.

Thats a good idea with the turrets also, ive been doing minimal work with a car alone so i think a combo of both might be best for me. And its the one to the west. Thanks for the idea.

Colonels option B means that you build bunch of turrets, repair packs and bullets then place turrets down near biters and load turrets by pressing ctrl + left click (whole bullet stack) or ctrl + right click (half of bullet stack <-- better way to load multiple turrets).

Turrets are easier to use than car imo.

If i can put turrets close enough, will they attack the spawners also? or is it only the enemies they attack?

Turrets attack everything at the range including spawners. Good luck.
