0.17 not installing?

am I missing something? my game still in version 0.16, is the release limited to some ppl or for everyone?

Use the automatic updater if you can (check experimental updates in other settings) or download full installation at http://www.factorio.com/download/experimental.

You have to change to the 0.17.x experimental branch.

right click to properties, go to beta then drop down to 0.17.x version to update. Sometimes strong internet connection might help install faster.

Not actually, I had used Steam for 2 years now. Just their updates made it different.

Not new to Steam at all, but this is the first time in my many years that I've been interested enough in a beta to want to download it. I found the "Beta" tab almost by accident, clicking around and exploring to try & figure out what I needed to do to get the 0.17.x download. I had gotten close before I noticed this thread and then had a "doh" moment when I figured it out.

All that to say, there are quite a number of reasons someone might not know this. Thanks to those who gave detailed directions - it is not at all obvious when you've never looked for it before!

I do wish people would search the last few pages of the forum before creating a new thread. I've lost count of the amount of identical "not upgrading to 0.17" threads there has been since the release. Makes the place awfully cluttered.

you now threads move up base on ppl commenting right? the solution is simple, ignore it and move on, i already got what i wanted anyways

There isn't one. If the drop down list is empty then make sure Factorio is not running and try again, if that fails then restart steam.
