Enable research queue after game start?
Looks like this hasn't been answered yet. Forgot to setup research queue option before I started this game, Is their a command I can run to enable it?

Yeah, but you'll lose out on achievements (ask me how I know this):

/c game.player.force.research_queue_enabled = true

Guess i'll just restart.

Thanks

I don't care about achievements, so I'm happy to learn the console command, but I don't understand the logic here. You're able to start a game with it turned on, but if you change your mind after starting, why are achievements disabled?

As using the console disables achievements as it’s a form of cheating and Wube didn’t program in a edge case for disabling the research queue.

Hey, I've got a related question. When you have the queue filled and something gets researched, you get the Research Completed audio clip. When I look up, it shows what's next. Is there a way to check to see what just finished?

For the same reason you can start the game with a million rocket silos by editing the scenario's control.lua without disabling achievements - someone arbitrarily decided the location of that arbitrary line.

You cannot prevent cheating on the PC platform short of running the game on your company's servers when players can arbitrarily modify any file, any binary, any memory location and any data sent over the network.

Yes, that's a very accurate analogy. 8/

I came up with a nifty way to edit a save game to turn on the research queue, but... you have to go and get yourself killed by biters after loading the hacked save in order to turn the research queue on:

https://www.reddit.com/r/factorio/comments/c2roai/i_figured_out_how_to_enable_the_research_queue/

It works on 0.17.79

I'm going to have to dissect that mod to figure out how it works.

I bet it works exactly the same as the console, ie it changes the variable, but since it doesn't do it through the /c the game doesn't detect it as a console cheat.

Except the game also automatically disables achievements when any mod is loaded. It's not how it's enabling the research queue I'm interested in, it's how it avoids disabling achievements.

Another Necropost, but that is false. In game achievements are still active with mods.

Excuse me for the imprecision. Steam achievements are disabled once you add a mod.

I'll try to clear up something then; when you remove a mod then you once again can get Steam achievements, even if those mods give you stuff as if you cheated them in.
