How do I force steam to update Factorio?

It seems like it's not auto updating it or its not telling me it's updating and everytime I launch it it says I'm on 16.51

It's an experimental release so you need to opt-in. Right click Factorio on Steam, properties, beta tab and select latest 0.17.x version.

Note, there might be bugs, backup your save, mods are not updated for the most part.

I tried that but nothing happens when I click the drop down menu for betas, I think that means there is none.

You can try to restart Steam.

Yea, might be steam. My steam client has been glitched for a while now.

Top left of STEAM window. Click Steam>Settings>Account tab middle of screen is "Beta Participation", use pulldown menu to select STEAM BETA UPDATE. Do this AND the above suggestions.

do you go long periods without restarting your machine? try a restart, then go to the beta tab again.

It works now and is updated but I'm not sure how to back up my saves so I just backed up the entire folder.
