I can't shoot [pistol or smg
About halfway through my play through so far, I am no longer able to fire my pistol or SMG. I tried with both ammo types that I can make but space does nothing. I have the same issue in the car. For some reason the shotgun works, so I know it's not a keybind issue even though I have already tried changing keybinds. I'm on a mission now where I need to destroy a nest. I have grenades, but the problem is I start off with no base and no shotgun so I can't shoot at anything since the other two weapons do not work. Is there any fix for this?

Like I said, I already changed bindings. The guns used to work, now they don't. Only the shotgun works. The pistol and SMG don't shoot on either setting space or C and it doesn't matter which ammo is equipped.

Ran out of bullets then. What key did you set it to for shooting?

No I didn't, there's plenty under both weapons and no matter which weapon I tab to, neither work. Like I said, it's just an issue with pistol and SMG. It's a bug and you telling me I ran out of ammo really doesn't help. Not trying to sound rude, please don't take it that way, but like I said, they used to work and no longer do. I even tried re crafting the weapons, swapping different ammo several times, logging in and out. Nothing works except shotgun.

just to eliminate all possibilities.....
You do know you need an enemy target for pistol and SMG?... shotgun can shoot anywhere with no target..
Your mouse needs to be near an alien or base to shoot SMG or pistol

Using the auto-target key yes, using the default C key allows you to shoot at any high lighted target.

Range might be part of the issue too, I'd just throw down a wooden chest, and stand nearly point blank and test your bindings. While making sure you have ammo and the right weapon selected for the test, obviously.

Edit: I don't use the shotgun much myself, but if I remember correctly, it has a larger range than the pistol and smg. So maybe one could switch to the other weapons thinking they are in range when they actually are not.

And yes, the pistol/smg do need a target, unlike the shotgun. But your own building targets will work, as long as you are in range. Hence my suggestion to try your binds on a wooden box.

Sadly trees do not count as a valid target for pistols and SMG... You can use the shotgun at any time, but the other guns need to have a valid target. You can force an attack on something you own via "C" (Disposing a wood chest with junk in it for example)

I'm very grateful that they aren't. I often find myself fighting against the swarm in heavily wooded areas.

Nope. Just checked. One for the tool, a slot under that for armour, and three slots each for weapons and their respective ammunition.

Tab key is the default binding to switch weapons. Are you sure you didn't hit that?
