Starting Condition: Trees
I prefer to play without mods, but I really don't want trees in my game. So, like the water setting for just in starting area, that would be great for trees too.

Set trees to "none" during mapgen, & try this mod ~ Wood Start.[mods.factorio.com]

You can load the mod, start a new game, then disable the mod (which should allow Steam cheevies to be earned, assuming you use no other mods too).

Not sure why I would do that when I could just cheat with the console and also still get achievements. I just want the game to have this as a Vanilla feature.

Also, it would be nice to see achievements require specific game settings.

Some achievements like the launching the rocket in 8 hours or less one require biter settings to be at default.

I wouldn't mind seeing an achievement for clearing an unmodified death world map.

Ummm I are you sure on that. Where does it state that? I was pretty sure that all achievements could be done on any setting.

It used to be that some achievements could not be earned on peaceful mode.
They changed it to standard biter settings sometime in version 0.16.

All achievements now have their updated conditions listed in the achievement menu.

You can't though? Console commands disable Steam achievements.

Why dont' you want trees? I mean, they are kinda annoying at the beginning, but once you get grenades, and better yet, cluster grenades, they aren't an issue at all. :)

Just want to make a Dune map, with higher bug settings. Just need more of a challenge.

Then try a marathon angelbob run with Natural Evolution modpack and Rampant ^^

perhaps the 0.17 world gen overhaul will include trees in the starting area.

OP, what exactly is the issue? In the map gen, Terrain Settings > you can set Trees Size to None. No mods needed.

And then you can enjoy making zero progress because you can't do anything without first setting up an electricity grid.

For the game to be *viable* without trees you need mods or console commands/edited scenario files.

Roll mapgen until you get a desert start, deserts have way fewer trees (husks more like).
Deserts also dont dissipate pollution as fast and with no trees the pollution will attract a lot of biters.

I set all other settings to none except desert. However, as stated by others, without a few trees of a sort, a wood source, you can not progress.

Just use the mod I linked in first reply when starting a new map. All it does is give 50 wood alongside the default starting kit. Then once you have loaded into the new world, you can save game, disable the mod, & continue playing (while still earning Steam cheevies).
