Ultrawide monitor problem
The game runs as normal but instead of getting more vision on the sides it just cuts off the top/bottom to make it fit the 21:9 so I see less than I would in normal 16:9. Does anyone know of a fix to this problem?

Get a new mid to highend gaming video graphics card.

I reckon that looks better on smaller screen than wide screen when playing Factorio.

I'm surprised it's cutting off the top/bottom. I'd think it'd cut off the sides to keep the same aspect ratio. So you're saying you're getting an ultra-wide, ultra-short screen? I've tried using windows mode and stretching it across two monitors, but it insists on keeping the same aspect ration and stretching all of the game elements so they're short and fat.

I think my 1080ti is more than enough for this game>.>
The problem is my 3440x1440 monitor which is 21:9 and instead of making the picture wider it just stretches it and removes the top/bottom.

I took 2 screenshots so you can see the comparison. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1561448377

Much wider but there is actually less on the screen witch is sad, other games such as PUBG, cities skylines just extends the view instead of stretching and cutting top/bottom.

Not sure if comparing the screenshots is going to well represent the reality of you observing your physical monitors... but looking at the screenshots alone, I carefully measured the the aspect ratios of both to be what appears to be exactly the same. i.e. no stretching more or less one way vertically or horizantally. It just appears that the screenshot of the standard monitor is zoomed out further than the screenshot of the wide monitor. If one was zoomed in or out so that the same amount of factory was visable vertically, the the expected extra factory space would be evident on the wide monitor. Would it not? But if you are already zoomed all the way out on both shots, then I could understand the disappointment. Is that the case? If so, there is still a possibility that when 0.17 comes out it could change. They did almost completely re-write the rendering portion of the game.

It is fully zoomed out and it's not really stretched but the 16:9 is "stretched/upscaled" to fit 21:9 witch means the image would be 21:12(Ish, didnt do the math) but since the monitor is only 21:9 it cuts the top/bottom. Support for 21:9 would prob be minimal even in the future since like 0.41% of gamers use it.

Doesn't look stretched to me, just that showing the same area on both changes the dimensions based on the aspect ratio. Change it to windowed and make the window narrower and the field of view will be different.

It's not stretched per se but the image is made wider to fit the 21:9 which means it would be taller which removes top and bottom slightly.

Ok, this is really strange and doesn't make sense to me
imgur [REPLACE_WITH_DOT] com/a/Jg0VIiK

For some reason the HUD got way bigger while in 1920x1080 compared to 2560x1080

The interesting part is that while on 2560x1080, I had greater vision on the sides as you can see by the furnaces on the left BUT I had a little less vertical vision as you can see by the labs on the bottom

The game is not stretched, not extended and neither zoomed.

I've never seen anything like this, of couse I zoomed all the way out before taking the screenshots

i don't see a problem with that 21:9 screenshot.

Similar to mine but you actually get slightly more vision on the sides where as I get none.

I see what is going on. The game only lets you zoom out so far and it is based on the horizontal resolution instead of the expected vertical one. So no matter the aspect ratio with fully zoomed out you will have the same amount of tiles left to right.

I agree with op in the sense that it would make more sense to have it be based on the vertical resolution such as fully zoomed out you would always have the same amount of tiles in the up down direction.

Edit: wait looking at the imgur link it seems it is somekind of a combination of both? I can understand their decicion to do something like that without considering the implications it would have on extreme aspect ratios. Someone should make a thread suggesting it be changed to be based only on the vertical resolution on their ideas and suggestions board https://forums.factorio.com/viewforum.php?f=6.

Think of it this way. Zooming out lets you see N tiles total, X tiles horizontal and Y tiles vertical, where N is constant regardless of display. X times Y is approximately N, but X:Y is the aspect ratio of the display or window.

I think the ultrawideness eats alot of the max zoom factor or it's simply due to a certan max in x/y and when y is eaten (21) to its max the X displays (9) less to not to crop that axis than an 16:9.

Play on an 21:9 (3440x1440 100hz display but 60hz in this game) and i thoroughly enjoy the game on the screen and find the zoomfactor quite darn ok

This is vert- , which cuts off 1/3 of vertical screen on 21:9 and about half of the screen on 32:9, making games almost unplayable at those resolutions.

Has this been fixed?
