Bases are not affected. In this way you can see if your lag is caused by enemies. I have the same problem late game when the base gets really big.
If you want to reduce the number of entities without commands i would recommend artillery.
gtx 660 is a bit lacking in the video ram, try reducing your graphics settings for larger worlds. specifically hd textures will use alot more video ram. i use all the prety graphics settings untill fps starts dropping, then i throttle them back little by little untill my base is so awesome i dont care about the fps and lowered settings
Thanks all :)
Reduce your fluid works as muc has possible. FLuids take up a ton of CPu cycles i nfactorio, and while that can't relaly be prevented for the petrochem parts, if you got Steam biolers/steam engines or nuclear reactors/steam turbines, try replacing them with solar panels and accumulators. The game will treat all your solar panels in one network as 1 entity, and similarly all equaly charged/discharged accumulators in the same network.
A While back when nuclear was fairly new i had a base with somewhere along the lines of 28 Nuclear reactors powering it, then went full solar as a test, and saw the CPu cylce need of factorio drop by liek 15%.
Edit:
Oh, and don't expect to many performance gains from the next major release. They might be able to squeeze 1-2% out here and there, but overall the game is already fairly highly opimized, and it's unlikely they'll be able to improve it by more than 5-6% in total imo.
