Train engine placement
I generally run a 1-4 ratio on my trains but now that travel times are getting past 2 min I'm wanting to add a second engine to increase speed.

I know people who stackk engines have them all pulling the wagons but is there any diffrence if you have one pulling and one pushing?

I'm not going back to double headed trains...but I have seen in the RL that some of the trains in my area do have an engine or two pushing the load as well as the lead engine pulling

There is no difference where you the put the engine. However, adding more engines will not increase speed on long hauls. It will give you a bit bit more acceleration on LONG trains (not 1-4s, but something like 2-10).

The only thing to increase speed a little bit is using higher tier fuels, like rocket fuel or nuclear fuel.

Thank you ma'am, I'll have to just add more stops at both ends and add more trains to help the slow than.

If you don't need more stops, you can always just add more parking space, so the trains don't queue on the main line. But indeed adding extra trains is so much better for throughput than slight speed inscreases.

I had a similar problem - I have 3 base areas connected by a long interbase track and it takes a train about 10 minutes to go the whole distance between them. I was using 1-4 trains initially but I ended up needing so many of them because of the long transit times that I opted to transition to 4-16 for interbase trains.

Adding more engines doesn't make your trains faster, it makes them accelerate better. My 4-16 trains have the same acceleration as my 1-4 trains. It doesn't really matter where you put the engines. I put them all at the front because it makes it makes the stations simpler, but I've seen some ingenious setups that actually put the engines in the middle and use U-shaped stations.
