They only operate in the orage square which your personal logistics ports do not support.
Construction bots will build stuff for you and work with your personal roboport.
Personal bots are used before main network bots.
[edit] they will 'limp' back to you but that may take a LONG time.
If you have a portable roboport then construction bots from your inventory can take items from your inventory to build world objects, and deconstruct world objects and place the items back in your inventory. Construction bots launched from your inventory can never deliver items to any chests you might have placed.
Construction bots launched from roboports can take items from chests and place them in the world, and deconstruct world objects and place the items back in suitable chests. They can never take items from your inventory, or place items in your inventory.
Logistic bots can move items between chests, and to/from the player's inventory if the player is in range of the roboport and if the roboport has logistic robots. Logistic bots can never be launched from the player's inventory.
