Finish is relativ.
In freeplay the launch of rocket can be considered a finish line. There are achievements with 15h and 8h for it. In a previous version there was a speedrunner who achieved 2h but i'm not sure what current record is (after rework of science).
Times of 35-50h are quite common especially for new players.

And it's not the end. Launched rockets generate space science - besides you can always improve your factory. :tl2engineer:

At the other extreme, I take my time and build big almost from the start, so it takes me 100+ hours to launch the first rocket :)

Just check reviews and average the time players played. It's a lot for factorio. 4 most helpful in last 30 days: ~2000 hours average

Finish? never, its open ended. If you mean "win" the win condition is launchign a rocket. There are several speedruns on youtube that take ess than 8 hours, some multiplayer speedruns take under 3 hours. I think my fastest run so far solo has been about 30 hours. But I havent tried a speedrun yet. That may be in the near future as I am currently stomping alien guts to goo in a 5dim deathworld game. So its getting close to the launch window.

That said, the game doesnt end once you launch a rocket, inf act some would say that merely marks the beginning of the endgame. you get special science packs from a launch and its repeatable and can be used to unloack infinite research items. There are always megabases and huge train networks. Some people just enjoy playing the game withotu needed that adrenalin kick from "winning".

i've launched a rocket in one game, and two in another so far. i'm over 150 hours, easily. there's a HUGE difference between how fast it CAN be done and how fast a new player can figure out how to do it.

Finish the game? What's in a word....You can fire a rocket within 8 hrs (which is basically an endpoint as you will get the option to start a new game or continue after that) but is that finished?

I have 2K+ hrs spent on this game and am still going...bigger factories; better streamlined, more research, mods to try which add their own complexity to the game and thusly take more time to fire that rocket again.

So finish the game? Or finished WITH the game...because the first might be as short as 8 hours but I won't be surprised if the secondwill take me an additional 2000 hours

@OP when was the last time you 'finished' a sandbox game? The game is finished when you burn out on it, which can take thousands of hours.

@OP when you read numbers like "8h" or "3h" for a speedrun/archievement please dont think this can be archived within some weeks or playing. You probably need 100s of hourse to be able to make it to even 5h speedruns.

But speedruns is just a really tiny part of the game. You can easily spend 2000 hours with one save game and just build your factory bigger and bigger

In my opinion there isn't really "winning" in Factorio.
It's a never ending loop of constantly improving to produce more and more.

So far my record is about 8-10 hrs in one freeplay, playing all day. I don't think I even made it halfway to the end. This game is brutal when you have a short attention span, but I'm determined to finish it at least once.

A fairly typical first-rocket launch seems to take 24 to 48 hours of gameplay. You may be faster or slower depending on your playstyle and how quickly you get used to it.

There is a finish?
LOL. I have more fun restarting and replaying same or another map.

Myself, this is the 1st game I have ever bought that actually has unlimited replay. There is nothing like it.

Finish? Factorio? Bhahaha! It never is finished... Well maybe if can launch a rocket every 20 seconds? Bhahaha

My first playthrough took 60 hours, which also included all the achievements about not using robots... since I assumed it was best to do those first before I got hooked on robots.

My second playthough, which was Lazy Bastard, took about 40 hours. Also went for all the robot achievements.

Currently, I am guessint its at about 40 hours, but now I am experiementing with getting all the odd achievements, while also trying to developed the Main Bus concept and experimenting with Malls.
