Trains and Shields
Does anyone know how many MK2 Energy Shields It takes to block a Nuclear Fuel powered train with 3 cargo wagons at full speed?

10 MK2 shields to take shield only damage. testing in lab save.

I got clocked by my coal train. Nuclear powered, full speed 1-2-1 loaded with coal. At 5 shields it took all the shield power and half my health. Achieved Golem!

Edit: I had tried to get the Golem achievement earlier in controlled tests but got distracted with another bottleneck that was also a test in progress. Never realized I was standing on the tracks for the coal supply to the [rarely used] secondary steam plant.

lol - that's how I got golem as well. Last run, forgot to look before crossing the tracks and WHAM!

Trains are annoying for me. We need an item that tells you when a train is about to cross a track near you.
I died 10 times in the past hour ON THE SAME STRETCH OF TRACK by train.

would be neat if signals research added a light item you could put up that'd flash when a train is about to cross that track in a few seconds.

might actually be possible to set something up like that with normal lights.

No reason you can't with the normal circuit system. Kind of one of the nice things about the circuit system. We might not have a bunch of items, but you can make your own with a good blueprint and some knowledge of the circuit system. Can even make train crossing stations that only allow a player through if there's no train coming or stop a train if the player is crossing.

That is literally what the signals do: They turn yellow/red if a train is approaching the block. If you cross in front of a green signal you are safe.

Hey, I can respawn. That's sorta the reason I haven't been eliminated. If we could respawn IRL then "survival of the fittest" really wouldn't apply :P

I haven't got the time.... Too many trains, and a lot of the time, it happens when I am pushed out of the way by a large electric pole. Although I might try to enable the debug option that shows train pathing, if they didn't remove it in .16.

What i did was set up a circuit network with some gates and walls as safe cross zones basically it changes a train signal and as a secondary measue locks the gates across the tracks when i am close enough to activate the pedestrian gate so if the train gets past the signal the train gates stop it with brute force before it reaches me :). Just got to not be lazy and j walk on the tracks :O id actually like a train tunnel feature.

I knocked up a very quick example for anyone interested doesn't require combinators just some sturdy gates and some signal wire. Good thing is you can just blueprint the suckers and place them on high traffic areas or where ever. You may need more gates depending on the speed and cargo of the trains however was just a quick knock up.

Don't forget to use hazard tiles. Any place I normally cross train tracks, I put a strip of hazard tiles at the tracks, and then like a line 4 spaces before that one. It gets me to stop running in time before a train hits me.

You can use gates with circuits to turn off signals. Gate opens, train signal goes red, train stops. You walk through no worries.
