How to do level 3 of tutorial
It makes no sense. I've looked at online tutorials but they involve using electric poles which I can't craft, and the boiler is different (has three connectors). I place the offshore pump, connect it to the boiler, and then the boiler to the steam engine but it still says that there is no power

The steam engine will create power, but doesn't show it unless any building (either around the steam engine or near a pole) is there to use some.

The steam engine must be connected sideways. You can put multiple boiler in line and 2 steam engine per boiler.. They have to go on the side that shows the steam icon as output. After that put coal or wood into the boiler and place a electric pole right next to the steam engine and something that actually used power. "No power usage = no production"

But I can't make any poles, there is the one that already exists but I can't craft any

can you pick it up? I never played the tuts I started right away with a endless game.

You are supposed to complete the tasks in order - the power pole is unlocked after you connect the steam output to the steam engine.

1) build off-shore pump
2) connect off-shore pump to boiler water inlet
3) place coal in boiler
4) connect boiler steam output to steam engine
5) build the newly unlocked power pole

This is what it is supposed to look like:

ah. I was connecting the one to the left to the engine, not the pipe to the top I didn't see. I'll try that

Press alt to see connection icons.

That's why you have an objective in the top left corner that updates when you complete a task - if the tracked objective is stuck at "Now connect pipes to connect the steam output to the steam engine" then you are supposed to deduce that you haven't correctly connected the steam output to the steam engine, and maybe should try some other way of connecting the pipes (there are only two options, so finding the right way by trial and error wouldn't have been overly time consuming)

I did, I connected all the pipes in all the possible combinations but I never saw the top connector because of the camera angle

ok now it isn't working again. I made a pole from the engine to the mining drill. I then put a few drills over the iron and put poles going from the first pole to the iron and it's not getting power for some reason

oh ok it wasn't close enough. moved closer and it started pumping then immediately stopped

brocolli, press ALT to show what each building's input and output is - very useful (i see you did that already lol)

now that it pumped a few times, you know the circuit is connected. now you need to ensure the boiler is filled with coal or wood to keep it burning and producing steam.

Try to move the coal closer to the boiler, and have an inserter directly insert the coal into the boiler =)

ah yeah directly inserting coal would be good. I didn't know what the red thing was. and the pumps were stopping because I have short conveyor belts and there's too much on them. I like to have one going left and right now but probably better to have longer belt going one way

not sure how to get it to directly feed coal into engine
