Upgraded my CPU and this is the results for those who are intrested.
I did a quick test on this because I found nothing on it on the internet(Not that I was looking for long) and here are the results.
The test was just done with 205000robots transporting stuff from dubplicator chests just as a stress test since I had no world currently that pushed the UPS down. I cba to upload picture of base but it's just a big block of chests and roboports.

I5-2500k@4.4ghz released early 2011
DDR3@1600mhz 16gb
Standing spot 1: Zoomed in 43UPS, Zoomed out 29UPS.
Standing spot 2: Zoomed in 42UPS, Zoomed out 25.5UPS.
Running along the base: Zoomed in 41, Zoomed out 27.

I7-8700k Stock:3.7ghz released late 2017
DDR4@2133 16gb
Standing spot 1: Zoomed in 49UPS, Zoomed out 36UPS.
Standing spot 2: Zoomed in 47UPS, Zoomed out 33UPS.
Running along the base: Zoomed in 41, Zoomed out 30.

I7-8700k Turbo on:4.5-4.7ghz released late 2017
DDR4@3000 16gb
Standing spot 1: Zoomed in 55UPS, Zoomed out 41.5UPS.
Standing spot 2: Zoomed in 52UPS, Zoomed out 37UPS.
Running along the base: Zoomed in 49.5, Zoomed out 38.

The UPS was fluctuating during the tests so I picked where it would hover around most of the time. I am not sure if my hopes were too high but I expected more from a CPU that is 6 generation ahead and the tier above.

OH MAN! So much for my reading skills LOL! :D

Factorio can't utilize more than two cores IIRC, and your DDR3 @ 1600 MHz were already pretty fast.
That's the main reason why I went intel, Most games I play doesnt use 8cores(not sure any game does) so why not have fewer quicker ones am I right?^^
For most games, yes you are.

I know Cities:Skylines from 2015 utilizes all 8 cores; however, I am not aware of any other games that make use of modern technology in that way.

Ashes of the Singularity is a game that is famous for using all CPU cores. It is actually used as a popular benchmark by most hardware websites such as Tom's and Anandtech.

Here is a related post I made regarding my computer upgrade to make it play Factorio better:

Upgrading the motherboard, CPU, RAM made a huge difference for me.

I see, nice that you got such a huge improvment. Biggest difference I see on your upgrade is that you almost doubled your CPU speed where as I only improved by 0.1-0.3ghz.

If you'd like more reliable FPS/UPS results, create a new map and turn off biters completely, save that map and load it for the benchmarks. Now just type /c game.speed = 200 and see how high your UPS gets.

For people reading this 999 years in the future, if you reach 12.000 UPS steadily, then you have to increase the game.speed number. :steammocking:

Ok, now .. what kind of improvement should one see going from a GeForce 660 to something like a GeForce 1070?

None whatsoever. Factorio is CPU heavy, GPU not so much.

Don't be too sure about that, I just launched my factorio and MSI said it peaked at 3.1GB Vram usage which is 1.1GB more than the 660 and not only that, my FPS tanks before my FPS does when there are a lot of bots on screen and I use a 970 but I suppose normally you wont have 20k robots on screen as it was in my test.

I honestly have no idea but you would probably be able to render ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ more on screen before FPS starts to tank.

Well, it was a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti .. and at the bare minimum, the new card does not have me losing FPS when I run into a heavily colorfully-forested area.
