turn off day/night without disabling achievements?
i get that the day/night cycle adds challenge to the game, but quite frankly it's so fast that it's beyond challenging and just plain annoying. unfortunately i've already put a lot of work into my factory and i don't want to start over, but my understanding is that using the LUA console will disable achievements. Any way around this?

Unfortunately not. Mods or console commands will disable achievements.

If the darkness bothers you, try placing lamps all over the place. When you get access to the Nightvision goggles, be sure to place them in power armor.

yes, night vision has improved. it's not the annoying green like it use to be. looks kinda like moon light to me. colors are washed out some. makes night time a lot more bearable.

My monitor seems to be darker than most people's, and I lament games that don't have an in-game brightness control. At night in factorio, I can see only a tiny inch or so radius around my character. Some other people have, in the past, been confused by this, saying that they hardly notice night time since they can still see their entire screen. Early in the game I mostly just stand still and wait for morning, since there's not a lot I can do at night.

These are the reasons I think there should always be an in-game brightness or gamma control.

I understand that developers want to enforce a particular mood or challenge, but they need to understand that their game looks different to their players depending on their hardware configuration.

Name Lips, i suggest finding a grey scale test image and adjust your monitor. i did that years ago and most games look great with default settings.

My monitor is already as physically bright as it is capable of getting. I can still mess with contrast, but that really just washes out black - it doesn't make things more visible.

I should point out that most games work fine, since their default brightness is very low, but there are in-game adjustments that can make them playable. The settings I pick would probably make them look overly bright and washed out on most people's screens, but they work fine for me. That's why, I presume, those settings exist.

Strangely enough, windows looks fine. My desktop background, youtube, movies, and so on are just fine.

The only workaround I've found is to mess with the nvidia control panel. I can find settings that make factorio more visible, but these settings apply to the entire screen. I usually run factorio in windowed mode, and by the time I can make out any night time details, the rest of my screen (where I'm usually watching movies) has gotten way too bright and washed out.

I don't usually moan(!), but I too have an issue with darkness. I actually find that at night I cope with the lights being on, but it is the "dusk"/"dawn" periods I don't like. The lights won't come on, and for me it's too dark to see comfortably. I'm a touch older than you guys, but I only have this problem in Factorio. And, no, this has nothing to do with monitor settings.

Would anyone support the idea of allowing the light s at least to come on at half brightness during twilight or something? Would the devs care to do something to help those of us for whom this is a problem?

BTW, I'd be happy to pay for improved lighting. If it requires manufacturing a different lamp and uses more electricity that's fine, nothing in life is free.

lights changed in 0.16 they no longer stagger and come on later, and turn off sooner.
there is a bug report about it and it's been 'assigned'.

i have a feeling it will get improved.

@maximus
Ah, thank you, I have only just started Fac and only seen 0.16.

Mind you, as I just edited in my post, I don't mind having to pay for better lights!

Also, I had a thought: I don't know how to do signal circuits yet, but can you presently use that to force lamps to be on permanently, day & night?

The mod "Afraid of the dark" might be good for you if you start a new game ~ idk about mods disabling achivements but it increases the light "bubble" around you at night to almost all your screen

I did read the thread but i am confused about the specifics of mods disabling achivements because i am currently playing a modded world and have earn two achivemets. Also the suggestion was if the op created a new world after they finished the current one
Side question do mods only disable achivements when inable after the world is created?

there are in game achievments that are seperate from steam achievments. enabling mods disables steam achievments.

ok thanks

Also OP are steam achievements worth that much you feel like sacrificing a portion of the games playability to get them?
