Can you auto-feed assembling machines?

I just started playing last night. Assembly machines seem useful, but there doesn't seem to be a way to feed items in using inserters. Am I missing something here?

Oh, nevermind. Looks like it will only feed in a few items at a time.

Using insertes to fill assembly factories is a core principle, but, as you have found out, it won't fill them up. However, the real meat of the game is to auto-produce everything. There is even an achievement for only making 111 items by hand, called "You are doing it right".

it only takes in few items so you can connect more and more assembling machines to the one belt. this way theres enough resource for all assembler machines.
or well, enough as long as youre smelting enough :D

Did they change the achievements name? It was called "lazy bastard" when I completed it.

No. You are doing it right is a different achievement which you unlock by placing more structure with robots than by hand.
