Laser Defence
Is a double line of laser turrets with a double wall perimeter enough to stop a large enemy attack?

If you add flamethrower into the mix and construction robots to repair the walls and turrets then yes, otherwise you are going to need a serious investment in the laser turret's technologies (speed and damage) to even stand a chance.

Yeah, I completely disagree.

What about triple layer laser turret and the 1st few infinite technologies? I have a dislike for flame turrets because of their initial delay in taking out the 1st wave of enemies.

Gun turrets can become extremely powerful in the late game due to the multiplicative stacking of their attack bonuses. They are also good enough in the middle game. Once you get something like +100% bullet damage and +100% damage for the turrets it means the base damage is quadrupled. And it gets even crazier later on.

The only downside for gun turrets is that you need to build a provider belt. But once you have it, a full line of upgraded gun turrets can mow down almost everything even with the cheap standard ammo. Once you are able to upgrade the ammo to uranium, absolutely nothing will be able to get even close to your walls. You might sprinkle in a few laser turrets for their extra range though to deal with larger spiters.

So far my entire base is 100% protected by laser turrets. I'm in the process of building massive solar/accumulator fields in newly acquired land so the power is ready before I turn my factory back on and go full blast.

I guess a row of flame thrower turrets is doable behind my lines of laser, but would it be overkill in late late game? Like would a triple line of lasers and decent tech take down behemoths? It's not a problem for me to build flame defences, but it involve spending more time on it.

I use "tank traps" (A grid of 1x1 walls) to have the big guys having to chew through them to get to my gun line. And a laser turret every few guns to take out the spitters that outrange the guns.

Flame throwers don't have a delay. They begin firing long before the biters reach the spot where the conflagration is.

I suggest building a blueprint for your wall design. I did and Wow, it got so much easier to expand my base! I think I used a section about as long as the large electric wire goes, with a simple 3 thick wall, a few lasers, a robo hub with a stockpile of repair items, and a flamethrower, with pipes underground. Turns our oil for the flame throwers is kinda silly and moves through all the turrets way too easily. The lasers help keep out the first few bugs, the wall makes sure there's no chance they get through, and the flames just preroast the whole swarm, so they drop like flies! Eventually I went back and added those railgun or whatever, and it was total overkill, but it was worth it. No nests come Anywhere Near my base now, so the defenses are totally impenetrable. But, my goal was to make the biggest base possible, not the most efficient. lol

I find a single row (of lasers, double wall) is enough most of the time. PROVIDED your power lines are not attacked. I make a second row of large power poles well back from the front-line so a single spittter hit on a pole doesn't turn off the lasers for a whole section. Also, turrets with green bullets will keep firing (but not necessarily reloading) if the power goes.

Landmines will stun biters.
This will give your flamethrowers time to aim at them and take out the initial wave.

The only problem is your bots will try to replace landmines as they explode.
I'm sure there's a way to turn off bots with the circuit network somehow...

This is very effective vs pretty much everything except worms that occasionally set up near your base. You just need to have a large solar network with plenty of accumulators.

Single wall is all ive ever needed. But I use a checkerboard dragons teeth defence out in front of that wall. Lasers imediately behind the inner wall set so their range is just beyond the outewr wall. Flamethrowers behind that, so their range is well beyond the outer wall, and gun turrets behind that with their max range just inside the outer wall, so they only kick in if the biters make it through the outer wall. The outer wall is 5 layers thick, ina checkerboard pattern, it confuses the A* pathing so it thinks it can pass through, btu then the colllision boxes of thebiters prevent it, Slowign them down, and the flamethrowers and lasers tear them apart.

I was having the same issue with not enough firepower on my outer walls. Duh, forgot about the flamethrower turrets. Got them installed and now its easy again, just gotta keep up production of heavy oil with coal liquefaction. Lots of fun watching them get crispified.
