It takes some creative belt routing, but I remember seeing a very interesting design by Nilaus that had each lab filled with productivity modules and surrounded by beacons with speed modules. He went through the rationale as he was building it in one of his YouTube play series. I think it was the one about 0.17.
So Labs have Productivity Modules and Beacons use the Speed Modules.
Very nice things to have assuming you got enough production to supply it.
Since early on I am production strapped I typically build a low-volume Science line add Productivity modules of the highest level I have available as soon as I get them to the labs and science production assemblers that are choking from lack of resources.
I don't worry about science volume until I have enough smelting and circuit production, at which point I build a large scale beacon optimized complex for science and rockets.
If they boost 8 labs for 50% speed, they are 4 labs for the space of one and much cheaper because it's worth 8 prod modules for the price of 2 speed modules.
