Logistic storage capacity
Do I need to keep adding yellow (or other) boxes for storage of auto-trash and deconstructed items? Or is the storage in effect unlimited?

I note that when I hover over a box I'm shown a complete inventory of the logistic network.

I also tried using a requester box to drain some of the deconstructed items. For example, I saw I had over 2k red circuits in "store" so I put a requester box to call for red circuits and just push them onto a red circuit belt. Robots leapt into action. And every darn one of them was emptying out the red box I had deliberately set up to have 2 stacks of reds available to resupply me, which was at the far end of the same belt! So I've turned that off for now and it is gradually drawing down the 2k stored items, then I can turn off the requestor box and re-establish my "stock" of 2 stacks. Whilst it ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ at my mild OCD, perhaps it would be better to totally ignore the "deconstructed" stocks..? But then will the system end up "filling up"?

The storage chests have capacity, just like any other chest. You will need to add more when you need them.

I tend to re-use deconstructed items where they are needed. For example, if I pick up yellow belts because I am replacing them with reds, they will go in auto-trash and my red belt production will have a requester chest for yellow belts. These belts will therefore go to this requester chest if there is room (based on the quantity I have requested). Any surplus will go into the storage chests.

In this example, my red belt production is also fed by an Assembler producing yellow belts, so I will put a circuit wire on the assembler output to ensure I only produce new yellows from scratch when there is not enough available from storage / Auto-trash.

The green buffer chest is exactly what you need! It can "hold on to" whatever you set and the bots can grab the rest.

Indeed, I've not played with circuits yet, it's next on my agenda. So I'll just litter some more yellow boxes around the place... Actually "upgrading" steel and iron to red or yellow would seem sensbile no? Must work out how to set that up.

Which reminds me - I uesd a blueprint and it had blue belts in and I don't have any yet, any way I can "upgrade" the blue ghosts to yellow? I didn't see any obvious way - other than going there and re-doing them by hand at least.

The 0.17 upgrade planner can be applied to ghosts as well as built entities.

Use the upgrade planner on the ghost. If you set what you want upgraded ie Blue Belts to Yellow Belts, only those items will be upgraded.

Bots should pick up stuff in yellow chests before picking up in reds, so you can leave the storage there and it will eventually be consumed. Ie by your personal request and your blue chip or modules factory if they order by bots.

It is good to have a recycling system in place if you still use mostly belts for production and bots for construction and deconstruction only. If you use bot orders for all items, storage should empty naturaly.

Instead of using a requester chest to grab the extra yellow belts, I will use a storage chest with the filter set to yellow belts. I use that to feed to a belt that goes to a splitter and merge this with the output of the factory that builds the yellow belts. And I set the input of the splitter to set the priority of the input from the storage chest. This insures that extra belts are used before more are made. No circuits required. I only use one general storage chest in the factory that doesn't have a filter set. (You may need more with a 'mega-base'.)
Using requester chests in this situation will create an infinite bot loop if you also have a provider chest to provide yellow chests to the network. I use provider chests on the output of the factories that build my items so that I may use bots to provide things to me or to other small groups of bot based assembler factories.
