White Science Packs? (potential spoilers)

I finally (after about 1500 hours) launched my first rocket (ie I finally didn't start over again and again...). I'm playing the experimental 0.17 branch. When the rocket launched, VICTORY was announced, and that was that.

I was quite pleased and about to start a modded game when I realised I never actually got to craft or use a single white science pack! What did I miss? Did I do something wrong?

You need to put a satellite in the rocket before sending it to outser space, it will put the space science in the rocket silo after the launch is complete so you will need to have an inserter taking it out.

Space science is only used for infinite researches in vanilla, which is meant for the people that continue playing after launching the first rocket (making mega bases is usually the goal at that point).

Thanks for that. I sent up a satellite, but didn't realise I'd be left with a gift so quit at the VICTORY announcement! Doh. Still, I do want to make a mega-base next time so perhaps I'll wait around for the pack next time - LOL!

If you haven't loaded up a new map, you ought to be able to load an autosave from right before the end and launch it again, this time choosing to keep going.
