How to setup basic train crossing
So can someone more experienced player tell me what I am doing wrong with my setup. I have tried almost everything with the train signals but I cant get it to work properly. https://gyazo.com/4914e825c95d9b666d406cd2cbc14506

Looks like the block is occupied. Try another signal further down the track to create an open block to allow your train in. Also remember the signal must go on the right side of the track. Your horizontal track has a train heading East but signal on the left. If you wanna open your game to multiplayer I can hop in and take a look. I'm not a train expert, but intermediate looking to improve, looks like something I can do.
Yeah put another one further upwards, and make sure it's far enough that one train fits into that block.

Then replace the lower one with a chainsignal. This will prevent trains to enter the crossing if the exit is occupied, keeping the horizontal line open.
Always put signals before and after an intersection for the right-hand side of the tracks for the trains that go through it. There is no such signal for the horizontal train that is heading east.

Pro-tip: Use a chain signal for every signal in an intersection except for the last. This makes it so if any part of the intersection is blocked, the train will wait outside it rather than get stuck in the middle, like the north-bound train here.
Thanks for the tips guys! Unfortunatly I still cant get it to work. https://gyazo.com/16e61b5ccf76a88fe10f546f5dfba53a <-- not sure if thats what u meant but still doesnt work. This ♥♥♥♥ is getting quite frutustraiting :P
Pro-tip: put chain signals ONLY on the ENTRACES to the intersection... After the intersection, place a regular signal.

It looks like you still have only like 4 blocks all together. Place more regular signals around the track so you have a free-flowing line. (Signals should be placed in distances longer than the length of your trains).

The intersection I was referring to is the part where the two tracks cross over. You did good putting a chain signal right before it, but I see you did a chain signal right after on both paths. Change those to regular signals.

I'd recommend a regular signal right after the intersections too. You should put these as close to the intersection as you can, give or take 2 spaces. The point of signals around an intersection are to declare that the space within all those lights is occupied. The further away from the intersection you put lights the further trains will look for (and wait) trains that might be blocking the -now much larger - intersection.

Yep sorry. I worded my suggestion for larger, more complex intersections that might have multiple tracks intersecting. In this case, only on the entrance.

Now it works expect the upper signals will stay red no matter what. https://gyazo.com/eba62ccbb9bb92612b57c123625a522d

Are the trains set on Automatic mode? They should proceed forward.

As far as the red signals go, we would need a more expansive screenshot to see where they connect.

That's what I imagined :-) I just wanted to clarify for this particular situation.
I set them to automatic and one train is going just fine but the other one seems to be stuck there. https://gyazo.com/6d1c86691e2311e1b1045057669c37bb .Btw really appreciate you taking your time to help others. :steamhappy:
Now, add signals in a similar configuration at the other intersection.

Happy to help!

If you have no other signals, or only somewhere waay over on the other side, then that one train that went through basically locks down the whole track. As Katherine said above, you'll need to put down signals all around for an efficient flow. Ideally you'll want to divide everything into blocks that are the size of you longest train. (or slighty larger to be sure it fits)
The way signals work (if you care to know) is they look down the tracks ahead of them AAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL the way until they see anotther signal. If there is a train somewhere in that section, the signal leading into it will be red, since that section is occupied by a train and another is not allowed to enter. Intersections complicate things, as signals will now look along every other path of the intersection also to look for trains. But on a linear path you shouldn't need to worry about that.

Which is why it is good to "block off" intersections with signals on every entrance and every exit as close to it as you can, to keep it simple for yourself when visualizing this.
