cloud sync?
Does anyone else suffer from a severe cloud sync delay with ONLY factorio upon exiting? I'm talking like 10+ minutes. And it doesn't seem to matter how big a map/save I had opened.

Indeed, the cloud save takes quite a while. Map size & your internet speed each play ther part as well. Personally, I disable cloud save since I don't play Factorio on more than my one computer.

Grab the self-contained zip from the factorio website and shove your save files into there. You'll be able to play even if your internet goes down when steam thinks you need to update. :D

p.s. you'll need to make an account on their forums and then link your steam account.

Orr.....you could disable cloud save. I guess that works too.

That happens because the saves are rather big. It gets worse the more saves you have. Just disable cloud sync and it won't happen anymore.

the thing is I have tons of games that all cloud sync with huge maps and my crap internet. Why does factorio, last night for example took 42 minutes, take so long. For crying out loud, my space engineers saves which are huyndreds and hundreds of MB's do not take that long. 10 minutes tops. There is something else IMO different with factorio saves.

Wow, 42 minutes is a LONG time... My guess is that perhaps the other games transfer data in a different way. (Maybe they send changes instead of the entire file each time). Just hypothesizing.

Turn off cloud save -- you'll have fewer headaches :-)

perhaps, but i'll also lose my ability to play the same save on my lunch break on my laptop :)

where are the saves stored anyway?

Windows: C:\Users\[USER_NAME]\AppData\Roaming\Factorio\saves

so, 42 mintues to sync a 27mb file :(

Yet it can sync a 583mb Space Engineers file in 4 minutes.

MB. mb is milibit :)

It sounds strange. Tried to monitor your network while sync is in progress?

EDIT: As KOS wrote, maybe Factorio sends the entire file(s) (the three backups are sync'ed as well) each time, and SE only sends changed data.

I am having a problem with the Steam Sync.
If I play on my laptop, my desktop doesn't want to sync the laptop save to my desktop.
Annoying to throw the save in my Dropbox =(

Are you sure that the laptob syncs (uploads) after you have played? Got to give it some time to complete the sync.

I didn't realize the game might be trying to sync every save file. I've been creating several save files per game, for various points of the game. Guess I'll clean that up a bit!

The main concern I have about synced save files is that I might have different mods on each computer. For example, my main PC is one where I might try various mods all the time, changing in and out, even on the main game that I'm playing.

It should only need to sync the files that have changed once its synced up.
