How do I get combat robots?
I am over half way through the game now got all my sciences automated and research automated so the basics learned, but I haven't found the means to make combat robots yet.

I have completed research on the effectiveness of combat robots but can't actually make any yet. Are they one of the logistics or construction robots that gets armed with a lazer and becomes a combat robot or am I missing something from making them?

No, they are consumable, capsule-like items that you "throw" like grenades. They are calld: Defender, Distractor, and Destroyer -- search for them in the tech/crafting menus. (Three different levels of efficacy).

They are insanely expensive, too. But they are fun. I used to use them exclusively to kill biters but nukes and personal lasers are arguable better now. I will use a few destroyers sometimes but they are really kinda obsolete now.

I think it would be a great idea to have combat robots that automatically rally to fight any enemies inside your robotic network radius. Sadly they don't exist. If I knew how to make mods that would be one of my goals.

I've played with robot army. It's not what I want, it has offensive robots that drive out of the base to attack alien nests. They're not proper "robots" in the Factorio sense -- they don't fly, sleep and recharge in the roboports, etc.

What I'm thinking of is specifically a defensive robot that replaces the need for walls and turrets to defend the base. If an enemy enters the robotics network range, they emerge from roboports and swarm the enemies. They would require ammo and seek it out in the logistics network to load their weapons. Advanced robots might use lasers (and need lots of electricity).

I think the advanced robots should use uranium ammo. With the amount of power (or lack thereof) that logistics bots have, a robot with a laser would fire for a microsecond. This is just comparing it to how much power laser turrets use.

Sure somekind of that would be cool. But it requires lot of programming. And Factoriomakers do everthing they do nearly perfectly.

For me personall, i wish somekind of remote tank or a rts like tank armie. Im not content with the smallish looking tank. I wish somekind of badass thing whish is large and unstoppable.
