electric mining drill placement
so im not a beginnner by any means, but i need the know if the ring around the drill is its actual area of effect, not just the area under it.

Yes, it has a 5x5 area to mine while it is only 3x3 big.

the ring is the area of effect, you can see it when you place the minig drill only with the edge (1square) on a ressource ;)

For maximum output place them next to each other anyway :)

but its more space frendly(you can buld belts between them), resorce effencent(you dont buld as many), and you might not get as much, but 20 drills on a high yeld spot is more than enough.

Hmm, my 1k RPM 0.15 base will need about 5500 mining drills going at once, so the closer the better :P

20 is enough? XD I don't even look at an ore patch unless I can place around 200 mining drills on it... :-)

y'all might have supper factories that need several 100k iron and copper an hour but I dont need that much right now. Besided if I need more iron or somthing i could always just pull some more from another spot with trains.

It's never enough :D

You can separate them if you want your mines to last longer but with a lower output. This could be beneficial for a remote base powered by solar since it will use less power.

they not last longer , ore magicly dont vanish as you mine it , you getting same amount of ore at more steady pace(becouse more miners work meaning they can reach more ore per miner)

i had same mindset that if i mine less it lasts longer but its false...and counter productive , more miners mine ore more evenly , more space between miners will make big chunks of ore endup per miner , and they will take forever to mine them out fully

when miners overlap they reach more ore per miner , mine more evenly and efficiently.

1000 Rocket Per Minute?! What kind of science per minute are you pulling? I think you must have reached 1TW power usage. And your computer must be struggling to run the Terrafactory.

They last longer.

Each tile has a specific amount of ore on it. If you have multiple drills overlapping that tile, it will be emptied faster. If you use speed modules in the drill(s), it will be emptied faster.

If you place drills so that their 5x5 mining areas don't overlap, you'll mine more evenly, as each tile is mined by exactly one drill. If you place drills next to each other (with no space), the central tiles will be mined more slowly than the others, as they only have one drill mining them.

False that ore is still there , if you store it you will have stored ore meaning if your ore runout you can pickup the drills and got time to actualy to claim new vein

Just becouse its mined faster does not mean it not lasts as long , all depends on your procesing power

thats also false , veins are not even distributed , bigest concentration is in center of vein , whats annoying on nonoverlaping miners is you eventualy endup with 2-10 miners who has "really big chunks" with a lot ore , and since its 1 miner not overlaping that ore will be mined for very long time , while doing bogger all for factory

on overlaping miner that problem does not exist , especialy with mods with miners who have longer reach

Overlaping miners have more consistant mining speed , ore lasts just as long as you dont have process it all , you can let it lay on belt and use amount you need if you really dont want to tsore it
