In fairness they seemed to have purchased it now, can you honestly say you've never pirated anything?

it will be fine. i also tried the game before buying it and my first completed game in 0.11 (or maybe 0.10 i dont remember) still loads without a problem in current version

Ah I see, I hadn't considered that, I'd be very surprised if they did anything. I expect steam would take issue in talking about how to and where to get pirtaed games from.

Steam does nothing even if you pirated X game. Moderators will just warn you to no talk about piracy on the forums blah blah and "we do not support pirated copies blah blah blah if you encounter some problem blah blah"

Before Steam refund system I used to download free version to check the games out, because false advertising is very common and plenty of unfinished never ending early acess games.

So its perfectly fine to use pirated save on legal copy with no issues.

As a form of demo it's understandable as long as you actually have interest in buying the game because of it. That's actually beneficial to developers as many wouldn't otherwise buy it, so there are indeed 2 sides to piracy.

Well, for Factorio that's a pretty bad excuse as there is an actual demo for the game.
