Multiplayer lagfree gaming possible?
We are three people, I have wired internet connetion 100/100MBit, they have 4G Internet connection. I 'm always the host because of my computers specs, but if I try to attack aliens, then the others can't do anything, no move, no play, nothing and have massive lags in the gameplay. If I stop to attack the aliens then they can play again, what is it and how to fix this issue? Is there any new build of the game?

10/100mb is your local network, not your Internet speed. 4G cellular Internet depends more on the carrier and now many people are using the tower that they are accessing at the time.

But from what you said, it sounds like your Internet provider is not letting you upload data fast enough to host this game if others are frozen. Would be a different story if 1 person was frozen, then they would just have to get faster data rate to keep up with the hosted server.

Agreed. It does seem that either your internet connection lacks enough upload bandwidth, or thier 4G connection lacks adequate DL bandwidth / has a big latency.

Goto http://www.speedtest.net/ and run a quick check to find your actual down/upload capabilities & connection latency. Have your buddies do the same with thier 4G, and you should be able to see where the data is bottlenecking.

I have played many hours in multiplayer Factorio [over home broadband] ~ never had severe lag as you describe, so it is absolutely possible to have a smooth MP game. GL!

every player must be able to run a game at server speed, so if you are a host and runing 60/60 and they cant keep up then they start to lag. server only sends data but every computer run simulation seperatly. i am talking about computer spec there. second realy important thing is internet connection. you can try to lower server game speed with in-game command (this will probably disable steam achievements) type: /c game.speed = X (0.5 is half speed, 1 is default, 2 is double speed, etc.) in game chat.

tips to help prevent lag.
  • no WiFi / Cell Internet ever! (i run 75' of cat5 to avoid this)
  • make friends with local people in your time zone or one next to it.
  • when browsing games look at the ping. < 100 is best.
  • host should have fast CPU/memory. factorio CPU throughput is helped by fast RAM.
  • shut down programs your not using. stop your torrents! lol
  • avoid resource hog programs like skype :steammocking:

I live in Russia and I have 100/100MBit Internet connection, my local network is configured for 1000MBit. Here the result from speedtest: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/6001805945
Download and upload speed is 11,2-12,5 megabyte per second.

I thought since we play with mods, may be some mod made this game laggy?

100MbB Internet (Megabits Burst) with an upload of 12mbps, with those speeds I don't see why you would have any problems. And your friends?? Thou it still sounds like something on your end if they freeze at the same time.

You might want to try unmoved just to do a control test. Go out right at start of game and attach some biters and see what happens.

Test it with no mods?

MbB? What's that?
And it's not 12 mbps, it's 12 MBps.

Not necessarily. While you can convert your internet speed, which is measured in megabits per second (Mbps) into how many megaBYTES you're writing to your hard drive (MBps), the ISP standard speed measurement is "Mbps", which is megaBITS per second. (small "b" = bits, large "B" = bytes)

Yes. And I meant 12 MEGABYTEps. That's what is expected from a 100 MEGABITps connection. Which was excactly what I wrote.

Why would you (or the other guy) talk about download speeds in Mbps, but then switch to MBps for upload? If it's 100 Mbps up AND down then you should maintain consistency in your terminology in order to avoid confusion... case in point.

From OP: "Download and upload speed is 11,2-12,5 megabyte per second."

It's quite clear and easy to understand.
