Works really well and saves you a lot of hassle.
Should be build into the base game.
Find it here: https://mods.factorio.com/mods/Klonan/upgrade-planner
Edit: Of course using this disables achievements...
And upgrading easier really should be in the game :)
Actually, "upgrading" is already in the game as you can simply drop a blue splitter over a red one, for example. I am not sure why the robots cannot do the same.
In this case, what I usualy do is build the new area (upgraded green circuits for example) in a different location and get it up and running.
Then I will slowly phase out, and disassemble, the older area.
A lot of the times, the new blueprint isn't compatable anyway. When you add beacons, for example, you wouldn't be able to plop that blueprint over the old one anyway.
If you are only talking about upgrading a train station from red to blue belts, your robots can probably get that done in the time it takes your train to go get more stuff and come back. Make sure you either leave the tracks and train station itself, or rename it the exact same.
I do this now, but since I only run vanilla I cannto import them to a new playthrough. So, yeah I want this too.
Currently, I will have a few blueprints using red belts and some basic train blueprints, but I usually get to blue belts fast enough that I don't have a lot to upgrade. In my game right now, IU already have blue belts and have not even placed my first train. This is a first for me!
how you update blueprint , take it l place it , make changes , clear the blueprint , overide it (or store blueprint in book in case you may need it later)
it does need a bit of your attention but once you used to using a lot of robots its just minor inconvience
