Is there a key to Alien Artifact yield?
E.g., is there a way to kill them that leaves more artifacts? Sometimes I get a full load, sometimes there's only a few... was wondering how I can increase the yield. :)

Bases drop a random number of artifacts when killed. There's no way to change that alas.

Okay, thanks.

Burn eveything in sight then you got the artifacts but the aliens will come bigger and bader so if you keep burning everything that moves you will have artifacts for years.

There's a bob mod module that makes the aliens drop those little purple artifacts, which you can assemble to a big purple artifact at a factory. Put some turrets near a alien spawn and there you go. Not exactly sure which of Bobs modules it is, though.

With vanilla, yes, only the bases do drop artifacts.

That would be Bob's Enemies. (It's a config option)
Keep in mind that, although this means artifacts can be obtained without destroying bases, it is a very slow method, as enemies don't drop many of these artifact bits, and you need 25 to make an artifact.

It is slow, but it is steady. You can set up a system at your walls to automatically harvest the small artifacts from the waves of enemies. After the attacks start coming frequently, you can have an entirely passive, infinite source of alien artifacts.

As long as you have a mod that marks the artifacts for pickup since bots will not do that on their own.

Have not used mods yet, but couldn't you set up a bunch of belts that serve to both slow the biters down, and then push the artifacts they drop towards a chest for collection?

I'm playing vanilla while learning. I should have my first 'win' tonight. Then maybe I'll look into mods... this particular one sounds cool!

Exactly this. Make a field of belts where the enemies usually die, pipe it to a factory behind the walls to assemble the artifacts and store them to a chest.

Edit: Some drones do help, just in case a belt gets destroyed/damaged every so often. Does not happen often, but sometimes it does.

In map generation richness of enemy bases corresponds to the number of artifacts you get per spawner kill.

That's what a lot of players believe, but it's not true.
