Help translating Factorio into other languages!
Factorio is looking for help with language translations. I thought I would post here to help those players of other languages and for those who wish to help contribute.

Here is the website where Factorio is hosting all the translation scripts at.

I thought this is common knowledge.

I will pin it as soon as I am on desktop.

Pinned.

The picture of the current state of languages doesn't accurately reflect the actual state. I'm not sure if it's an issue with crowdin or Factorio, but if you compare the completion percentages with the ones in the game (in Options --> Other --> Locale dropdown menu) you'll see that the percentages in crowdin are too low. For example Swedish is 52% vs. 89% and Dutch is 66% vs. 99%.

Also, languages don't have to be approved/voted to be included in the game. Only "proofreaders" (think of them as moderators) have the ability to approve or remove translations. When a new version of Factorio is released then the translations are automatically updated, approved translations have priority. If there is no approved translation then the highest voted translation will be included. This is on a per-string basis, it doesn't take other strings of the same language into account.

If you want to know more about translations we have a FAQ on the forums:

Dutch now at 70%, many translations have been done but not accepted yet.

Tried to help with some things, but some words are hard to translate exactly in dutch and some words(F.E.: Whitelist) doesn't have a dutch translation. these words are more considered as English programming words and are used in English in Dutch.

Hope I've helped with some things.

If you're committed to translate the game but your language isn't in the list then ask for it here: https://forums.factorio.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=5486
Thanks!

Click the link in the first post and select your language. You'll also need to create an account at crowdin to view/edit the translations.

No Prizes or something? I doubt people will spend hours a day translating words

within an hour i did like 6% of the full translation in Dutch(The Netherlands), have around 20 people who all spend 1 hour and the translation for that language would be done... so it's not ''hours a day translating words''... and why should they give something like a prize? They don't need to translate their game really, enough people know properly English... so only English would be enough for them to keep this day's community happy.

They do. And since it's a crowd effort (everyone can add suggestions and vote on them) it works pretty well. I would help to translate the German parts myself but since that is already taken I'm left to be a volunteer moderator here and on the official forums. It's my take on helping the game to become better and increase the audience, giving back to the developers.
