I own both games, have played around 300 hours in RW, and 850+ in Factorio. For me, RW got very tedious because of the same random events happening over and over. It just felt frustrating after a while.... after 300 hours-a-while.
Factorio, however, is a game I will play till my dying day. I've played 600 hours in vanilla before I even used my first mod. And the mods are manifold! From simple QoL fixes to massive game-changing mods, the modding community is vibrant and creative!
Factorio has many facets -- personally, I love the ability to be creative, and also the ability to build and build -- it's quite comforting in a way. There are endless possibilities in designs, the ability to min-max like a boss, or play as casually as you want. Factorio is really a game that fits every style of play.
Edit... Oh, and there's a demo you can try as well!
Risk of ether being abandoned randomly is very unlikely
Basically it boils down to your style of gameplay. Factorio is about building things, integrating, tweaking to go faster, automating, etc. Rimworld is about micromanagement of your colonists and surviving the random disaster events that get thrown at you constantly.
Or another way of putting it is ... in Factorio it is hard to lose, and if you do, it is your fault and could have been avoided. In Rimworld, one little random minor disaster can suddenly start a landslide of bad luck and wipe out your entire base.
Both have mods and settings to adjust to your preferred level of difficulty / enemy attacks / etc.

And the factorio dev team isn't a one man team..
buy Factorio if you haven't.. Its a lot easier on the mind in some ways and is quite relaxing..

Rimworld is a dwarf fortress-style game where you have a small team and are tasked with settling and surviving on a limited size map, with plenty of events (good and bad) to spice it up.
Factorio is about automating a large infrastructure of factories, optionally having to defend against native monsters, on a near-infinite map.
Obviously mods can change a lot for both games, but the core gameplay and controls are fairly distinct.
Rimworld doesn't have any demo, but factorio does, so you can start from there and see if the base gameplay clicks for you.
I personally prefer factorio (although my steam doesn't show it because I played most of it before it came here) because I stumbled uppon it after being a bit bored of modded minecraft and automating things there.
As for rimworld, I sadly am part of the people that do enjoy dwarf fortress, and aside from the fact that rimworld more futuristic and has proper graphics, it can't reach the enjoyment I have when playing dwarf fortress (Masterwork mod collection and a few others are just too much content when you can handle the interface and complexity of the base game).
Still, both of them are worth it and different enough, so you could always stick the other in your wish list and buy it when it's cheap.
At the end of the day it does depend on which game clicks for you and turns you into an addict that spends at least 10 hours for each dollar spent before you even notice it.
The logistics and automation go hand in hand in Factorio. You might have an outpost that is fully automated so you can (mostly) forget about it while it mines ore and then delivers it to your base using automated train scheduling.
Rimworld is much more hands on. You have to give orders for tasks you want accomplished and colonists with the right skills will come along and perform them for you. You can't really leave areas of your base unattended for long. Rimworld is a great game, but it has a very different feel to it .
Theirs a mod that adds basic simple conveyer belts but its not really useful
