turret creep blueprints
I am curious what other folks are using for their turret creeping. At the moment I am using a simple square double ring of laser turrets and double wall with a roboport, and radar in the center.

What you're describing isn't turret creep, it's a standard base expansion. Turret creep would be to just stuff your pockets with gun turrets and ammo, then place them closer and closer to an enemy base - slowly wiping it out. There's really no blueprint for turret creeping, it's literally just a line of turrets.

hmm, its always what I've thought it was :/

Iothos, it sounds like you are putting waaaaay too much engineering in your turret creep blueprints :-) Normally I use a single Long distance power pole surrounded by 8 laser turrets, plonk away until the base is dead, and it is fast to pick up afterwards!

I feel like walls are best used for permanent defense, so I don't use them for turret creep.

what katherine said though i pref largepole + meduim pole 12-16 turrets

maybe i am putting too much into it :(

I would put 3 gun turrets together in a line and surround them with walls one space out and one layer thick. Works up to where you start seeing more big biters.

Honestly, I've never had to use turret creep after getting oil. So, it isn't really a blueprint, just a concept.

Well, I suppose I/we should distinguish between creep and expansion. For me right now oil is a problem so I am trying to creep out from the base to protect a pipeline to a barrel station. Its not in my best interest to put too many resources into "satelite poles".

As opposed to my other border of the base where I want to push my base boundary out to the pollution edge. IE: expansion.

Indeed, sounds like you are expanding. "Turret Creep" is used for killing aliens to grab territory. After the teritory has been liberated from the hoards, then one generally puts down permanent walls and such.

When I turret creep, I take all the materials with me after the bases are dead. I don't leave the poles standing. Indeed, that's the point of turret creep -- to reuse turrets from the back of the line as you press forward.

In most of my bases, I simply connect the lakes with walls to have huge chunks of land available for building/resource gathering.

Also, if aliens are that much of a problem, consider barreling the oil and shipping by train. It will use less resources than protecting a pipeline.

I'm assuming though you're using onboard roboports though to creep with and the resources are in your pack. I guess thats a tactic I need to switch to more.

Yeah, I'm using a personal roboport to place down turrets. (Or nanobots when I'm doing modded)

When I turret creep, I use a LINE of laser turrets, not a box surrounding a power pole. The reason is simple:

It is VERY easy to deconstruct by dragging one box to pull up the line of turrets and leave the power pole so I can creep a bit further. If you build a box around a power pole, you either have to decontruct by dragging FOUR deconstruction boxes, or you have to replace the power pole.

Just saves a few steps.

@Nailfoot -- I used to use substations with a line of turrets, but like the long distance power poles because they stretch further with interconencted nests. When I go back, I just deconstruct the entire structure, since I no longer need more poles.

Personal preference.

I use the long distance poles, with 3 medium poles branching off. When I desconstruct I take up the medium poles.

My current turret-creeping blueprint is a single medium pole surrounded by four laser turrets, forming a sort-of spiral with no wasted space. I use a similar design as the basis for my solar power plants, though in that case it also includes reflections of it with accumulators to fill in the gaps.

my setup is a little different, mainly cuz i'm still learning. i typically run with enough supplies to make either a standard or massive solar array and let it charge, then i'll layout poles with 8 laser turrets in a double line (think like a firing squad) and leapfrog them up until the nests are gone
