Slow FPS drops although FPS says 60 - Top end gaming system.
Alright so this has happened even before the big update.

I'll be playing / running around and every so often (quite often) say every 3-5 seconds the game will randomly "slow" down as if it's catching up.
For example I have a solid 60fps in the top left corner (Overlayed from Steam)

I'll be moving around / running around and it'll randomly fps slow and jitter, like it's not as smooth as it should be.

I don't know if it's only me "noticing" this problem, or if my cousin genuinely isn't having it at all...

Bottom line is it's rather frustrating, especially if I'm on Skype as well whilst playing it seems to be worse... like last night.

I play many top games on full settings, such as Resident Evil 7, Outlast 2, Killing Floor 2 and so on... and I have no issues with those.

My specs are as follows:

Windows 7 64bit
16GB 1600MHz corsair DDR3 RAM
Intel i7-3770k CPU
Radeon RX480 8GB GPU
2TB Sata 3 HDD
850W Corsair modular PSU

Any help is really appreciated... I've tried all the generic suggestions such as opengl on/off... changing all the graphic settings up and down to lowest... still getting the same issue so it's not a graphic problem.

Many Thanks,

The thing is, even using Skype on other games I have no issues... I play games like Resident Evil 7 maxed out which maxes my GPU and I still get a solid 60fps...

I'll try the FPS / UPS thing thanks Nacho

Not at all... just because I use my YouTube URL in my signature doesn't mean I'm spamming it... If I was advertising my channel I'd be like; "I've done a let's play - Check it out here"
Also simply providing the url to my YouTube channel at the end of a very long post is not "Spam" On the other topic you linked I was replying to someone, and as you can see it's a rather elaborate response.

Thanks and Peace Out \o>

On the other hand. I'm also experiencing this. Especially on MP and im running i7 6700k + MSI GTX 960 4GB and 16GB RAM. I run new games like Mass Effect Andromeda just fine on ultra. In the latest experimental I have also started experiencing some kind of screen tearing or movement tearing of the enviroment of the game when I move the character while beeing zoomed out a little bit. It is getting really annoying, seems to be MP related as well.

And yes it feels like the frame drops im starting to think I cant trust the 60fps stuck from steam interface.

But as said it is all linked to playing multiplayer here. Both the screen tearing and the sense of frames lower than 60. Otherwise the game seems to run just fine. Consumes around 11% CPU on my biggest factory. Not sure of the MP usage on the save atm as my cousin I play with is not online atm.

of course skype makes it worse. skype is a huge resource hog.
Skype doesn't affect any of my games and it wont be a resourse hog unless it consumes so much your CPU and RAM is getting completely stuffed up while playing the game. Skype is no deal to my 6700k and never been a problem for any of my games even when I stil had my really old AMD CPU. If skype is a hog to your system you either have really bad internet or a really crappy system. Or malware infested to it somehow.

Well :P I guess I'm advertising then ^^
Got to spread the word somehow. I actually have it macro'd on my mouse I just wack the sig on the end of my posts.

It is definitely annoying though the glitch... I didn't notice it as much today but it was still there :( Hoping the developers may be able to shed some light?

Yes. Would like to know why the game likes to tear the screen in large chunks on MP as well...

I had this myself when I tried changing to the the 0.15x experimental beta, I worried because I don't have a good PC and the game was rock solid before so I hoped this wasn't going to be from now on.

I fiddled with all the settings but couldn't find a solution so I thought maybe it was the experimental update doing it and downgraded back to the release verison of the game.

The stuttering and whatnot stopped, which was great! However because I need to see new things I tried changing to 0.15x again but there was no stuttering at all this time!

I don't know if changing the version for you might help, or maybe it's something as simple as verifying the game files, but this is just my experience with what you describe.

Hmmh very strange. I had it on previous versions as well (Even before the big update) but not as bad, it's not as bad now it's more playable I get the odd little slowdown which feels like 20fps for half a second every 5-6 seconds on average.

I'll try switching version and reswitching back see if that helps (Although verifying the cache might do the same) as I guess it's just forcing it to reinstall the files for the newer update when you switched back...

RE: Others with screen tearing, have you got V-Sync on?
If that isn't working, you can get a free trial of DXTory to V-Sync with.

It is not the normal kind of screen tearing... The sprites and the ground in the game tear in big chunkes of squares (which is even then not normal tearing) so it is not the kind of tearing you usually see in other games. It only happens in multiplayer and seems to be releated to the game struggling to move the whole enviroment and sprites around for whatever reason. V-sync wouldn't help as the game already got inbuilt 60FPS lock becuase the game engine cant provide more FPS. My monitor is a brand new ASUS 75hertz LED so this game shouldn't do it.

And I dont think there is ever a need for a program you eventually need to pay for to fix sync problems. That sounds silly/dumb to do as Nvidia has settings to do this on the GPU. Probably AMD as well.

GPU must be on 2D frequency, for test force 3d gpu frequency whit some OC tool. Game run at 1/3 power usage comepere to "hard" 3d games. If no go you cen try fresh OS on old disk.

I'll look at seeing if I can set the GPU to 2D for this game... any idea how on an AMD card? :)

Thanks \o>

There is a bit of stuttering when you run very fast near areas that have a high activity. The fps counter shows 59.9 instead of 60 when that happens. I never went below that. V-sync is off but it doesn't matter unless you kill dwm.exe

The game engine is designed to only run in 60FPS. If it goes bellow that everything will slow down.

How is that relevant to what I said?

I'm just saying if you have the GPU V-sync off or on doesn't matter much for this game as this game engine is locked on 60FPS either way like Skyrim.

V-sync isn't just a framerate limiter, and there's a huge difference between v-sync on at 60 fps, and v-sync off at 60 fps. Both in tearing and input lag. But since this game uses borderless, unless you're on Windows 7 and you kill dwm.exe, v-sync is on regardless.

skype was bringedup in many problems "people claimed it does" but skype 90% of time does not cause any of these problems , i i can count atleast 6 times devs , people on forum claiming my problems is skype foult , and it was never the case , so whenever mentions "skype" its weaste of your time and people on this forums
