If your map is not too explored and there is no huge mega-base on it, it should only take a fraction of second to do those auto-saves, making look like a slow-down or skipped frame.
Not at all... just because I use my YouTube URL in my signature doesn't mean I'm spamming it... If I was advertising my channel I'd be like; "I've done a let's play - Check it out here"
Also simply providing the url to my YouTube channel at the end of a very long post is not "Spam" On the other topic you linked I was replying to someone, and as you can see it's a rather elaborate response.
It's a genuine issue I'm having (I'll see if it shows up on recording) Just need a bit of help solving it really :(
It's not the autosave... those happen every few minutes, this literally the game is smooth for say 4-5 seconds, then for less than half a second most the time it'll go into a slow fps grind, for example it's like it's dropping from 60fps to 20fps.
Yesterday when in a Skype call with 2 friends as well, it was worse and the lag would last a second or two and it felt more like 15fps.
It can't be GPU related at all because it happened on my old GPU (Nvidia GTX650ti 2gb)
And now on my new AMD RX480 8GB
I'm wondering if it's hard drive... but my HD should be more than fast enough, I play other games perfectly fine :( It's just a tad annoying when it happens every few seconds.
It then lasts anywhere from approx 1/2 second to 2-3 seconds depending.
I didn't notice it this much before the update, it was there but not as apparant (happened more on higher density maps with more stuff on)
Now it appears to be happening more around the ores.
If anyone has any insight I'll be really appreciative because it's driving me nuts lol.
Thanks and Peace Out \o>

Are you running 0.15?
I haven't had any issues with it, but that doesn't mean nobody else has.
I don't know if it's just the game and I'm noticing it too much :\ lol
I upgraded to a 144Hz 27" 2560x1440 G-Sync monitor, and turned off Vsync. I know the game runs at 60 FPS max, but with the 144Hz monitor and G-Sync, I do not have those hitches anymore.
Its not coincedence because I piped the game to my old 1080p HDMI monitor and the hitches were back.
I'm not expecting the devs to fix the mess that silverlight is though :p
Deploy some system monitoring tools while gaming, just to be sure nothing's bottlenecked.
And if you already experienced it on a previous setup, you -not the game- are doing something wrong.
I'm not sure, but I did try toggling it on and off last night and it didn't appear to make a difference... I'll try it again see if it does thanks.
Either way though the fps is still capped at 60fps with it on and off.
This is happening on brand new worlds as well :(
I don't have any silverlight programs running in the background (That I know to lol)
It's just only this game that I'm really noticing a problem with :( sometimes other games in the past on demanding parts have fps slowed a little (but I actually see the FPS drop) on this the FPS doesn't change but it's definitely noticeable on the game. It's not just my character, it's the whole gamescreen - even moving arms will slow to the same.
Good question but nope, all my servers are run on my VPS based in France, also happens in Singleplayer games too. (can search 'randem' in the browser and you'll find my servers)
Elaborate what's a top end gaming system then? It runs everything maxed out :)
I use many monitoring tools, to monitor CPU, GPU, HDD, etc... can't see anything odd. Everything seems normal.
My "previous" setup was the same, just with an older GPU (GTX650ti 2gb)
Now I've got the AMD Radeon RX480 8GB.
I don't get this on any other games... I don't know whats wrong, the game or something else :\ that's what I'm trying to conclude.
Thanks to everyone that's replied... I'll try twiddling with more settings later.
Might stick my SSD in and stick Factorio on that, just to cancel out the HDD.
I've had the SSD for a while, been procrastinating with putting it in because I will need to format and I hate doing it lol! I've been dreading it, especially doing YouTube as well I can't have my system out of comission.
Thanks again to everyone, hopefully I sort it soon, it's irritating whilst trying to play lol :(
Peace Out \o>

A top end is a top end, dummy. That rig you describe was top end two years ago.
Don't you wonder why your trouble persists?
Edit: "Might stick my SSD in and stick Factorio on that, just to cancel out the HDD."
A "Top end gaming system" without a SSD? Please stop :D
have you tried opening up task manager and selecting "always on top" by right clicking it's icon on the hidden icon menu? that should be able to pinpoint if the CPU, disk or RAM are being used up somehow. if not, than i have no idea what it could be... maybe try uninstall and reinstall at that point.
