Math Ratio for 1 Rocket Every 5 Minutes
Okay, so say I wanted to launch a rocket every five minutes BUT I wanted to do it using only Assembly 2 machines with no modules in place anywhere. How many machines would I need producing each component?

I worked it out to need to produce 10 each of: Processing unit, speed module 1, control unit, low density structure and rocket fuel every 3 seconds, but I'm not sure how accurate my maths is on that either.

Thank you to anyone who can help me work this out!

You would need 10 billion

You are correct in that you need 10 rocket fuel, 10 rocket control units, and 10 low density structures every 3s. I'd use total resources over 300s but whatever.
You simply need to work out how many assemblers it would take to make these 1000 (crafting time is 30s each, so it will take one assembler 40s to make one item, which means you need 133.3 blue assemblers for each of the three resources). Cumulative total is now 400 assemblers.

Now we need to figure out what parts are needed to make these 1000x of each of these three resources over five minutes:
10k steel plate, 5k copper plate, 5k plastic bar, 10k solid fuel, 1k processing units, 1k speed modules.

Simply repeat the above step until you have only plates left - e.g. 1k processing units requires 20k green circuits, 2k red circuits, 0.5k acid and 280 assemblers.

Good luck?

Thank you for your response. Can you explain to me how you got the 133.3 figure? I'm trying to understand the whole math process, so I can apply it to other things in Factorio (something which I am not brilliant with)

You made my head spin!! A lot of calculating and even more to set such a system up. But i'm a slow builder, so maybe i get there before they release 0.16 :2015coal:

I know, I'm the same way! It would be a lot easier to use yellow assemblers, speed and productivity modules and beacons, but the math is confusing enough without adding in the additional effects of modules! Plus, I was interested to see if it would be possible to do it this way, but clearly you would need an enormous factory to do it this way.

You need to make 1000 low density structures in 300s.

One assembler makes 1 low density structure in 30s/0.75=40s, so one assembler will make 300s/40s= 7.5 low density structures in 300s. Since you need to make 1000, you need 1000/7.5=133.3 assemblers in order to make the low density structures alone (assuming you have all the parts already).
The numbers for the control unit and rocket fuel are identical, so you need 400 assemblers in total (assuming that you have all the parts already).

Since we have to make the parts too, we then need to repeat the same calculations for everything else that is crafted by assemblers until you are left with basic plates.

Start here if you want to start working with calculating production ratios in Factorio. A very good explanation is posted.

Thank you very much to AlexMBrennan and Infamous Pirate Nermal for your help. I understand it much better now, especially with the working example from Alex. I'm actually looking forward to being able to be a bit more strategic in building my factory now!

No problem, glad it was of value.
