Robot dash forward punch needs nerf/fixing
The hitbox on that punch is absolutely insane and NEEDS to be nerfed/fixed, I can CLEARLY dodge the dash attack and it STILL hits me when when im miles away from the robot.

Several things have an attack reach/hitbox that feels too big.

Just strafe and keep your distance.
It doesn't really need any tweaking, you just need to get better at combating the robot.

my brother in christ thats exactly what im doing, i'm even using the roll you get from the sneaking level and that ♥♥♥♥ rolls a far distance and it STILL hits me, I can go and get video ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ evidence right now that its hitbox is way too big.

The fact i have to cheese the robot to kill it every time i fight it is telling that it needs a rework, i shouldn't be forced to do dumb strats like stand up high and shoot it with a crossbow for 10 minutes to kill it

Edit: it's also hard to "keep your distance" when 90% of this games combat is melee focused, the guns in the game are made of paper mache and shoot frozen peas at people and im not far enough to get the electric gun that ACTUALLY does good damage, the only good "gun" i have at the moment is the blade launcher and even then it takes a lot of blades to kill the robot and it's a lot of resources to make blades, that or take like 20 minutes to farm blades from crates

if you use a crossbow and like 50 bolts you can kill it np, boring af tbh but you wont get hit once.

The mallets have a rough time fighting a security robot 1 on 1 because you need to get close enough for the swing to hit-- which triggers the bot to perform this annoying punch. This move has such an incredibly large hitbox that you can be on the opposite side of a makeshift barricade give or take a few extra feet away and the punch will STILL connect. I don't know if it's because the hitbox for the punch is that large, or if the researcher's hitbox is actually just that big. There's a weird interaction going on there for sure.

Not to mention that punch has an actual gap closer lmao. Ridiculous range, wonky hitbox. Spears have just enough range to keep the robot from constantly slapping you with this particular attack.

I mention melee weapons only here because they're all I've used-- and because I've experienced what it's like kiting bots with mallets and spears.

I run spear and even with its range it still triggers the punch and it's so annoying.

Agreed! It's stupidly precise.

I'll be honest, there's a strat I use to help me cheese them. If you approach a robot at a charging station and get to either its left or righthand side as it activates, while you're sneaking, you can infinitely stunlock it. The sneak attack bonus damage-- at least I think it's what causes this-- will guarantee that it staggers until it dies. I've only done this with the Lightning Spear, don't know about any other weapon. This also works onthe juiced up Security Bots in the Lab Sector.

This cheese still doesn't fix the fact that its punch has an absurd amount of range with its weird hitbox, but I hope it helps since with this strat it'll never get the chance to hit you. There's also climbing up into vertical spaces it can't reach you in and attacking it from there with the spear. The fountain in the main area is one such place IIRC. It's not exactly fun IMO but... I guess it beats being folded and fried by a robot that runs on sodas and a CPU.

i assume yall are mostly talking about the robots in the labs and i haven't tried this on those yet, but for the others, you can cheese them pretty easily with the chopinator - set it up, lure them over, plug it in, and crouch and repair as the robot gets hit, keeping it between you and the robot. not the most exciting way to fight it, and doesn't address what OP's talking about, but it gets you those CPUs

This works because the robot detects and changes it's stance when it detects enemies in it's scanning light, but when you hit it from afar with ranged it auto targets you because you didn't stagger it and gave it time to turn red, then it's immune to the easy stagger from behind.

So you crouch and keep hitting it from behind and it keeps staggering with every hit while not detecting.

This apparently works on other enemies too but I'm not sure exactly which, I know it's possible with soldiers maybe.

Ah, that's interesting, so it has different stagger thresholds depending on its alert level? If it's yellow you can easily stagger it with melee as long as it doesn't detect you. But if it's red it takes a lot more to jostle the thing? At least that's what I'm picking up on.

If that's the case, thank you for the heads up! Does make sense that it's something you can do to the soldiers since they have a neutral and alerted state of their own.

Doesnt beat the melee range of the human enemies, seen a friend get hit by the melee through over 5 meters and through walls...
