Backpacks with specialized storage
A backpack with, say, +30 slots, but 3 of those slots are food/drink only, and 3 are medical only (like the fridge and medkit respectively).

Could be interesting.

Would be nice to have a way to store some food items for longer on your person.
I'd love a refrigerated backpack. Not only does it give food and ingredients a longer shelf life, but maybe also give you a point in resisting heat.

Personally, my entire top row of my backpack is locked, so I'll always have my meds, ammo, and food on me with them never being accidentally stored.

I think a better implementation would be like Icarus where you can have a medkit that takes up one inventory slot, can be opened from the hot bar and items used from it, only hold that class of item, has a fixed weight. There is already an issue of having to choose between space and the jetpack, this alleviates it a bit.

In co-op I wind up being out and about with perishable items and can wind up with near rotten stuff by the time the group has finally decided to return to base.:steamfacepalm:
'What's the point of getting (food item) for the cook if it is near rotten by the time we get back!? :steamsalty:

i really like this idea. might even be a perk you can learn on the healing line, where you can open it and auto use the most effective item you currently have stocked in it

gonna merge these two

what about two or three slots, a "lunch box" a " travel first aide" & a " Travelin Mechanic Kit"
Lunch box initially hold up to 5 perishable food item stacks, and slows decomp by 50%, this buff stacks by adding 10% per person in a team, on servers could be per tribe member or whatever, with a max slow rate of 80%. Upgrades could allow for more slots.
Travel first aide allows you to store stacks of 1 bandage item, 1 splint item, 1 healing item, & 1 extra med, be it radiation or gastro. upgrades could add slots.
Traveling mechanic is a tool belt, it holds a slot for a screwdriver/drill, 1 flashlight, and a slot for a repair hammer. upgrades could add slots for each weapon repair kit.

Don't know about specialized bags, but we definitely need a trinket that slows/stops spoil rate for food in your inventory.
Maybe add a slot for hanging lantern into backpack. Lanterns are pretty useless when you are forced to have it equipped in hand to use it. There is already the headlight and flashlight on weapons that people would prefer over lantern in almost every scenario. But having a function to hang lantern into backpack can give the aoe lighting passively.

i do think backpacks need a second pass. the radio pack and jetpack are both nice but nothing will ever beat just having vastly more storage space
I would kill for a opposing perk to the Fanny Pack called the Tool Belt where instead of two extra slots, it adds a special row in your backpack that will let you basically use a hotkey to swap out what item is available in the last hotbar slot that is added by the belt. So we can have the hammer and screwdriver in there, maybe your meds too, and just hit the hotkey to cycle through them for easy access so you dont have to open your inventory or clutter your hotbar.

Tho to be fair, i just want a cool toolbelt....
When I first started playing, when you look at your health status it shows that med bag UI bit showing what health stuff you on your person, but is not a specific bag for it. I thought it was lol, but it is not. I would like to be able to craft an ammo bag, something for food, something for medical stuff that isnt your normal backback space

Super delayed but there already are two lantern slots.

+1 Having some extra slots for certain backpacks that only accept certain types of items would be a really great feature. I'm thinking about slots that only accept medical items, only accept food items or slots with (partial) radiation protection that only accept radioactive items.

Oh, and let's not forget something like a powered aquarium backpack for fishing trips :)

EDIT: Oops, just saw that this was a necro. Oh well...

No such thing as a necro here. The game is not yet 1.0 so any and all suggestions are welcome. We already have the aquarium cart but I agree something to keep the fish from going to 59 durability so I dont have to put each fish in the cart as I catch them would be super nice =)
