Suggestion to solve the jetpack/jumppack dilemma
Why is it a dilemma:

The Jetpack got severely nerfed with major downsides besides limiting its height and content skipping capability. The jumppack is lackluster at best, made redundant by the jetpack at worst.

- The jetpack stops working completely once you hit the top of the bar making you fall to your death. It's like falling over and dying from running to long with the bionic legs.
- The jumppack stops working too, but you are usually not as high so don't die immediately. You can still die when descending from greater hights.
- If either of both overheats they do not reset at all until you are on solid ground. Sucks falling in water.
- The jetpack is arbitrary blocked from working in portal worlds while the jumppack is not. But you can use both to skip content.

- The jetpack takes the speed from your walking speed
- The jumppack has an absolute speed.
If you take the exor armor and the bionic legs you are as fast as the jumppack which means your jetpack is as fast as the jumppack. If you add the chieftain backpack your walk faster than the jumppack can jump 🤡

Suggestion on how to fix this mess:

- Jetpack gets a fixed, slow speed.
- Jumppack always adds its speed to your walking speed
- Both packs keep working after you hit the top of the bar BUT the cooling speed is greatly reduced until it's 100% cooled off.
- The condition to be on solid ground to reset is deleted.
- For the portal world both packs could overheat at double the speed consistently.

alternative option:
-- just add an liquid nitrogen trinket that keeps the dang things cool, might also preserve your on-hand food longer.
Balancing the jetpack for portal worlds would be a nightmare from a dev point of view. And it's only a one time deal. Leave it as is.

I prefer they keep the jump-packs from working in the portal worlds honestly, you can just come back after you complete a world and jump to your heart's content

That doesn't even address half the problems desribed and would add a feature that the devs clearly don't want it to have.

It's not, I made a suggestion that is pretty straight forward, I believe

I'd prefer to have the jetpack enabled, too. Yet, the developers goal is clearly to limit the ability to skip content. My suggestion does this for both packs and consistently, non immersion breaking and without gutting one completely.

Nah I said I didn't want them to break the portal worlds - I feel like it would only work if they built the portal worlds around being jump-packed or making them endgame but both solutions would effectively render the jetpack useless or mandatory for exploration.

Disabling them on fresh portal worlds is pretty much the only solution here.

With reduced cool down they can easily accommodate the portal worlds for it. You conclusion doesn't make sense. Neither would it be mandatory nor useless.

I expect they will kill the jumppack for portal worlds too after they see how people skip content with it. And it still doesn't make sense in the first place, why isn't it prohibited in new facility sectors too? It has almost the same content skipability there too.

All they have to do is make it so when you’re not moving and hit the jump button twice you’ll go straight up, and when you hit the jump button with a movement key you get launched in that direction. The jumppack should not be a downgrade for how high you can go.

I think that too, I was really frustrated that I upgraded, all the material....It really is a downgrade and not an upgrade. Yeah I got more storage, but do I really care? I have 2 carts with me all the time.

I think your solution is good, I think it would be even better if I can just alternate Modes. Jetpack mode and Jumppack mode, I mean its an upgrade isnt it? The only reason I came here was because of this up/downgrades. First patch that I didnt like.

I don't think this solves the problem. As I described in my OG post I'm already as fast as the jumpack. (and it is easy to achieve) I get no speed boost. There is more to do then just enable vertical.
Does it matter? I dont think that it is a problem when people decide to skip content. At least for me I play like I want to play, so it is a non issue. What I dont like is that it feels like a downgrade. Because I explore everything in a level the aspect of skipping content or missing out is not existent for me. And if I use game mechanics to achive the same speed as the Jumppack I call that a feature.

I guess that alot of players have different play styles, the only issue I had with the Jetpack before was the that if the Host has a bad connection your Inputs are slowed down or even your fuel consumption. I couldn´t get as far as the host for example. Anything else about it was fine for me. The Jumppack on the other hand is just a worse Jetpack.

🤔🤔🤔 I think you misread my post. I said nothing about skipping content. The jumppack is a downgrade because the speed boost is not realized for all but the slower armors and you can completely negate it with exor and bionic legs. Add the Chieftain backpack and the jumppack is actually a slow down.

So in all aspects BUT slow armor the jumppack is a downgrade.

the jetpack is still just as useable as before if you just stealth roll mid air to cool it off, even then its only a bit harder to keep it from overheating than before. also it being unusable for the first time in a portal world is a nonissue

Until they remove that too.... Which is more likely as more people mention it. The point is to make it useable again without exploits.
i love my jump pack, i put my blue cube trinket on and become a beautiful bird in heavy armor
There was a hint in the recently posted Q&A Vlog 3 about how stuff might be swapped next update/at release.

It was a 'maybe, maybe not' comment, but it is an indication that they have heard the complaints.
