Give us 100% fish chance
Mud Waders are awesome. When you level up a fishing in most games your chance to catch junk goes down as your chance to catch fish goes up. Mud Waders solves that problem and lets you fish for Power Cells in the radioactive pools to your heart's content. But they...arent really needed.

At level 15 fishing with the hat, insulated rod, and bait, I still got junk about 1/3 of the time fishing. This feels bad. If I put in the time to level up fishing all of the way, get all of the extra fishing equipment and go out of my way to set up a tackle box I should hit 100% chance to catch a fish. Not saying it should be base at 100% but the hat should give an extra 15%, the rod should give 10%, bait an extra 5%, etc, all adding up to 100% chance to catch a fish instead of junk.

I don't think this is something that should be available form the start, you should definitely have to progress through the story to unlock the gear needed to hit 100% fish chance, but it should be an option available. Right now I feel as though my time was wasted and I should have just made 30 fish traps and a tomato farm to get a bunch of portal fish.

we already have that in the fishing perks with hotspots, guaranteed fish if you land your bobber on one(look for the bubbles/ripples)
I'm pretty sure OP is fishing on the hot spots. I'd be shocked if they put in that much effort and didn't notice and actively looked for those little swirling spots.

In my experience, even with using the Lucky Fishing Hat, and proper bait (Tackle Box just makes it go marginally faster), and aiming in the right spots, I seem to get a 3 out of 4 success rate if I recall correctly. I'd have a couple batches of fish bait and would come back with a couple of them being lost.

Though my numbers might be a bit muddled since I haven't fished in awhile (gave up on filling out my fishing log :steamsad:) and I'm not sure if it is a 3:4 success ratio or a 7:8 ratio; and I got to the point that I didn't always lose my bait when pulling up junk.

Long story short, it still isn't guaranteed in the best of cases.

I'd still recommend fishing, since the XP is pretty good, it gets better with that lucky hat, and I've heard people having issues catching things with the Fish Traps.

Yeah but the hotspot only counts for 2-3 casts, I need 10 night essence for one nyxshade seed (just one example)

Now if you are wanting better chances of getting rare items from fish (or have rare fish have a better chance of giving rare items), I'm all for that!

Not sure how that could be balanced out, but if I'm farming/fishing for a given item, I'd rather not have tons of food, bones, and oil I can't use.

I could see rare fish filling out that need, giving better special items drop rates, and rare fish being easier to catch as you level up.

Also it would be nice if there were other ways to use or sell off the other parts, so it doesn't feel like as much of a waste. I've got so many fish bones and fish oil. Couldn't I just make fish oil supplement pills? :steammocking:
