X-ray Gun not just for Leyak
When you get to the point where you can finally vaporize the leyak to get his essence, it really feels great. You can at last don't worry about him, but now you have to keep this gun on you so when he show himself again, you could kindly persuade him to lay off.

But wouldn't it be nice if this gun could affect other aliens too. Not kill them, but at least make them run away, or make them angry. Something that would change their behavior. I imagine a scenario where you could use against a composer to keep him away. It would make trips to Flathill later in the game easier (Reward the player for his progres).

That would be neat if the lamp was also useful as an area denial weapon to scare off other things. As to what, I'm not sure.
The verbiage of the x-ray gun implies that there may be other entities that it will function with (at least in future content), but I'm kind of surprised it has no effect on the invisible crystal ones.

okay, but can we agree that the stationary x-ray station should be able to lock in certain directions if we wish?

But why? If they detect something within their range, they point at it, just like the other turrets do.

do they? I've never seen them work. I just thought they did what they did and we hoped they worked xD I still got attacked after installing one - this is where I got the idea from.

They don't have the biggest radius and the Leyak can spawn surprisingly close, so you usually have to install several of them to really protect you.
It's all about access points. I build my base in a room, where there are only two access points. One door, and an open passage. I blocked the door with cement bags, and placed my stationary x-ray in the other entrance. What's interesting is Leyak can't go through walls he needs open space. I confirmed that, when he tried go through the door, but couldn't. (They opened only a little before they were stopped by the bags) Then he went all the way around to the other entrance and was shot. You can manage with only one stationary gun, and one mobile if you choose wisely your base location.
Maybe using them to scan the surroundings for things? Or an anteworld where visible light waves dont work for some technobabble reason? A section of map you'd have to play Scanner Sombre style.
I think the X-Ray gun needs to work on Order soldier too... every time they get hit by the X-Ray gun they get a flash back when the doctor told them they had testicular cancer and since it was diagnosed late all they can do is amputate. :steamsad:

1000 Sanity damage. Do not pass go. Do not collect 200 dollars.

I can see X-ray as a light to reveal things that are innately invisible to the eyes, for navigating around the map, and detecting items and enemies...

Like a optional portal worlds that opens up after unlocking Cascade labs, where random things are invisible, including enemies and items and furnitures, causing you to need a x-ray source of light to 'see' them, and not fall down into the abyss.

Think furniture store, but invisible floors, and invisible monsters and invisible items to loot.

I think when the Leyak materializes, he has to obey most of the physical collision or fly around them. It's when he's invisible that he can ignore them.
